Description
Product Description NEW. Revised Volume 1. Discover the magic of Cardio Coach™ in the REVISED first workout of the Guided Workout Series as your Coach, Sean O’Malley, leads you through two fun, fast-paced challenges. New music, new workouts. Cardio Coach™ is for anybody, at any fitness level! No predetermined speeds or settings --- your workout is individualized to your perceived levels of exertion and motivates you to reach your goals. CD included written and graphic workout breakdown. The workout begins with a light warm-up and moves you into a steady state mode of exercise to prepare for the upcoming intervals. In challenge 1, you will climb 6 level 3 hills. Each hill is 20 seconds long, followed by a 40 second rest. The second challenge contains 3 level 3 sprints. Each sprint is 1 minute in length followed by a 1 minute rest. After the second challenge, you will be instructed to take your settings back to your steady state, or level 2, and finish the workout with the cool down. Or, show your spunk with the optional third challenge. Either way, the workout will leave you with a higher metabolism and those feel good endorphins. Scored with uplifting and 'on the mark' music, you will be instructed throughout the workout and each cue will help you find your specific workout levels. The CD ends with an inspiring word from your Coach. Volume 1 is designed to be more instructional in nature than the other volumes, and includes two versions. Version A is intended for the first-time user and contains additional instructional tracks. After using Version A at least once, users may advance to Version B for the same great workout without the added verbal instructions. Review I barely noticed the minutes zipping by as I ran, awaiting my next instruction. --John Briley, The Washington Post, February 22, 2005There's never been a better cardio audio series. Sean's expertise and skills when delivering these sessions shows thru. --Marc David, Freedomfly.net, May 10, 2006I use Sean's challenges to push me into pushing myself to improve. --Tom Cassidy, Orangeburg Striders, The Times and Democrat, August 27, 2005

From the Artist I have worked with such a wide diversity of clientele over the years and I have gained a tremendous amount of insight. This insight has allowed me to see clearly why people quit so soon after they get started with a well thought out plan in addition to why so many are successful at finding and maintaining a desireable lifestyle. My adventure in putting together theses workout CDs is so much more than just putting together a workout for you to follow. I invite you to try the workout. If you purchase a CD from .Take a chance on yourself, not me, to follow your dreams of living a life with total and optimal health. I wish you the best! About the Artist Sean O'Malley has been a fitness trainer, coach, health club owner and a very good listener. Finding a way to motivate his clients to DO their cardio was the motivation in his putting together Volume 1 of The Cardio Coach Guided Workout on CD. To use this CD, you will need a CD player, headphones and access to your favorite type of stationary exercise equipment. The instructions are pretty straight forward for participation. Sean's mesmerizing and motivating voice will bring you through a fun and invigorating workout. The workouts consist of interval training, meaning that participants start out in a warm-up phase and gradually increase their level of exertion using what Sean calls perceived levels of exertion. Which basically means, what you as an individual feels to be your level of exertion at that moment in time. Thus, you control the exercise level, based on the way you feel. And you will think about how you feel, because Sean, as your coach and guide, will be asking you throughout the workout. Volume 2 is in the making and future Workouts will be specifically designed for each of the different types of exercise equipment. After the warm-up phase, participants move right into a steady-state which is certain to bring on the sweat. Specially designed challenges follow that, although are as their name implies, challenging, are so perfectly presented, that the music and soulful voice of Sean O’Malley combat the will not to continue, and help participants want to go further and beyond their previous baselines. Breathed new life into my cardio workouts! My heart's holy grail.
I will admit...I disliked cardio quite a bit. I have always found it boring and can never survive more than a few minutes of it, especially when I was on my recumbent bike. I've gotten on track with doing regular home workouts several times a week, but my cardio sessions were lackluster and erratic because I simply didn't want to do them. Then I got Cardio Coach Vol. 1. WOW! A whole new cardio life was introduced to me. My recumbent bike, which I had stopped using for several years, is now being avidly used 3 to 4 times a week without hesitation - all thanks to Cardio Coach. This has been my holy grail/magic bullet (along with Vol. 2, 3, and 4) for my cardio sessions. This type of workout is great for everybody at all levels. Coach Sean O'Malley uses "perceived exertion" to guide your workout. He won't tell you how fast to go or how much resistance to use, as that will be different for everyone. But, he will tell you which levels of perceived exertion you need to achieve during the steady states, sprints, and challenges. The four perceived exertion zones are:- Level 1: Blue zone is low intensity - 55 to 65% of your max heart rate (MHR).- Level 2: Green zone is medium intensity - 65 to 75 % of your MHR.- Level 3: Orange zone is moderate to high intensity, pushing past your comfort zone - 76 to 85% of MHR.- Level 4: Red Zone is high intensity - 85 to 95% of your MHR.If you have a HRM to assist you during your workout, all the better, but it is not necessary if you follow the perceived exertion guide.Cardio Coach is practical for all kinds of stationary equipment, especially if it you can control the speed and resistance levels. But, I've also read how others are using it with rebounders, outdoor running, and walking. So basically, you can choose to how you want to utilize Cardio Coach.Coach Sean O'Malley is personable, non-intimidating, and enjoyable to listen to. He has a very nice voice. He helps you to focus into what you're doing and creates mental images that make your cardio sessions come alive. You forget that you're working out in your living room or gym - you're in your own world where it's just you, the road, and Coach Sean.In Vol. 1, Coach Sean guides you through warm up (blue zone), several steady states (green zone), two heart-pumping challenges (orange zone), then ends with a cool down and an ending chat. The challenges are grueling, but not impossible. The first challenge consists of 6 20-second sprints with rests in between (my favorite). Challenge 2 has four level 3 hill climbs for 1 minute each. This one is tougher, but survivable. At the end, it's hard to believe (especially if you're a beginner) that you've just accomplished 30 minutes of heart-pounding cardio. Then you get that wonderful endorphin rush...WOW! The energy you acheive for the rest of the day is just tremendous. Before doing Cardio Coach on my recumbent bike, I could barely do 7 minutes on my own, even when watching TV. I was bored to tears and my legs wanted to fall off. My speed was a steady but measly 7 mph. A week and a half later I got CC V. 1 - and I was shocked that not only did I survive 30 minutes, but I did it at an average speed of 10 mph with 15 to 16 MPH sprints. A month later, I'm now reaching 17 and 18 mph during the sprints. Coach Sean has not only helped me to realize that I had it in me to do it all this time, but also that I'm capable of achieving MORE. My heart is getting better and my body is getting stronger. For that, I'm forever grateful to Coach Sean and his Cardio Coach series. I hope his future endeavors continue to succeed.

I love Cardio Coach!
I was actually surprised to see negative reviews of this product. I am a person who DOES NOT like doing cardio, but as I am overweight I have no choice. I can't think of anything, in fact there is nothing that has motivated me as much as cardio coach. I have had personal trainers in the past, but Sean is with me for my entire workout and pushes me further than I have/would have on cardio equipment in the gym.I noticed that one poor review stated that there was about 20 BPM difference between level one and level four. The truth is for me a 30 Y/O woman my level one blue zone is between 105-124, my level 4 target BPM is between 162-181. Perhaps I'm bad at math or there is more than a 20 BPM difference. As for the music I am a true hip-hop fan, but I'd much rather listen to Sean during my workouts. I will admit that during some of the steady state phases I sub in my own music for Sean. I never thought I could or would fine the music inspiring or effective, but combined with Sean's inspiration it really works for me.I should also mention that this review is for Sean's revised version purchased from his website, not the original CD reviewed here. I own 1, 2 and 3 and will soon purchase the rest and any forth coming sessions after the new session 7.

Too cutesy
The coaching is too cutesy and the tempos don't change enough. If you're gonna have music during a workout, it's much easier to move with the beat. The difference in "Level 1" and "Level 4" is only about 20 or 25 bpm.

Different but good
I have all the Shape CD's and I was looking to see if they had released a new one when I found Sean O'Malley's Guided Workout. At first I thought it was a bit expensive but after I worked out to it, I changed my mind. I contacted Sean (or whoever answers their email on the vo2maxed.com website) and they explained that more CD's are being released soon to accomodate different needs. That's why I gave it 4 stars. I would definetly buy the second volume and can see how this can be a really cool concept. Sean has a good voice and it really does sound like he's RIGHT there with you....

Very motivating
I enjoy working out, but constantly look for new ways to motivate myself. Cardio Coach provides the motivation, and has a way of making your workout time go by faster. It gets you completely involved in your workout so you get the most out of it, talks you through it and has the music to inspire you. I definitely recommend it.

Can't wait!!!!!!!
First of all thanks to everybody that wrote a reveiw! It's so helpful when I can see what other people think before i make a purchase. It's such a hassle to return something you but that sucks. I really enjoyed the workout. Didn't know what to think when I ordered it but it was a blast. I guess the most positive thing about the workout is that I look forward to my next workout. I actually left my CD player at home the last time I went to the gym to workout and got on the treadmill to do my workout and couldn't stay on without Sean (hey that rhymes)! I can't wait for his next CD!
