Decent fingerstyle but not Delta blues
This review is from someone who learned to play all the songs in the book. If you're new to fingerpicking or under two years with a guitar then this book could be fun and a challenge. If you've played more then you should knock off a star or even two because this isn't targeted at you and you won't enjoy it. The CD is useful for hearing the rhythm expected in the songs. You can also try to learn without the CD then test yourself and your timing as you get the song under your belt. A strong point is that before each song there is a discussion / performance notes and tips on the chords used. This is really good if you're using this alone and good to discuss with teacher while working on some of them. I dropped a star because on all the tunes there is just alternate bass for each chord played against the melody. That displays a minimum effort especially as I've become better and played more interesting transcriptions (but at the same level). So not a lot of effort has been put into some of these. I had to knock a star off as well because this isn't really Delta Blues. Its country finger style. No delta licks or mannerisms are illustrated or inserted. That doesn't take away from this being a useful book to get better but its not Delta. You'll have to look elsewhere but this is still a useful book for the price of a lesson.

Great for advanced beginner/early advanced
I am an intermediate (just barely) fingerstyle guitar player but only recently discovered playing the blues. I went on an epic Amazon search for suitable books and this one was on the short list. This book made it to the final short list and became the first one I bought. The book progresses from easy to progressively harder tunes which I usually really appreciate. But in this case I couldn't resist jumping right to Saint James Infirmary Blues. The author also has a arrangement of Midnight Special that I initially didn't care for but is starting to grow on me.A CD is included with slow and regular versions of the songs. I don't especially care for the drum "metronome" (which can be turned off by muting one speaker). But since the majority of the arrangements should be played in swing time, having the recordings was essential since this was my first exposure ever to playing swing time.Overall one of the better guitar books I've bought over the years.

Fingerstyle made fun!!!!!
I have been into slide open tuning and finger pickingfor quite a while. But when you start on regular opentype chords for me its a little tricky. There are other great booksout there but for me they are alittle harder than what I like. And the written music does not match the cd tracks. All the cd tunes and written music match here. Its actually fun to practice this stuff. Starting basic and building. I am looking forward toto more books by Larry McCabe. You can use all of these exercises forall kinds of things. Then get his other books. I should have got this one before all the others.

Four Stars
Better than the majority of music books who CLAIM to be for beginners

Good for what it is but geared mainly for beginners
Hard for me to say. I mixed on this one. Good for what it is but geared mainly for beginners. The solos are quite elementary.

A bit lukewarm...
If you are a beginner there are, I'm afraid, better books out there... if you are not a beginner then this tutor will probably be too easy for you. So it's hard to see who this book would be right for...I've learnt fingerstyle blues mainly via Kenny Sultan's near faultless series... but his style is a bit ragtime for me and I had hoped this book would take me back to Mississippi. But it's pretty thin, with only about ten real pieces included and, while quite a few have got that deep south bluesy sound to them, they are all very simple and pretty short and I doubt they'll hold my interest long. The accompanying text is adequate, but not much more than that. So, overall my hopes weren't really met and I'm still left looking for that elusive intermediate fingerpicking book in the delta style, as most seem to be either for beginners or for players much more advanced than me. There are some possibilities on Amazon, but few with reviews so I think, afer this gamble, I'll play safe and revert to Kenny Sultan for a while, even though, excellent though he is, he's not quite taking me where I want to go.Back to this book and who it might be right for... perhaps someone who's already done a beginner's book like Beginning Fingerstyle Blues Guitar (Guitar Books) or the aforementioned Kenny Sultan's Acoustic Blues Guitar (which are both great introductions) and wants to consolidate what they've picked up from either of these, whilst adding a few easy tunes to their repertoire. This would definitely do that. Other than that however... well, it's not been a waste of my money and there's nothing really bad about it, but I think you are better off looking elsewhere. Schade, einfach schlecht!

Great beginner book
I love these delta blues tunes. Very simple. Perhaps a little too simple for what I was looking for, I guess this is the difficulty with ebooks, you can't try before you buy. Either way it is a great book for a beginner, some fundamental 12 bar melodies to build a good starting foundation from. I gave it 5 stars as it is a well written book and I love that it comes with soundtrack. Plus, how does anything remotely connected to blues get a poor review.
