Apex Side Rail Mounted Aluminum Roof Cross Bars: The Ultimate Match for my XTerra
I recently purchased the Apex Side Rail Mounted Aluminum Roof Cross Bars for my Xterra to use with the JEGS Rooftop Cargo Carrier, and I must say, they have exceeded my expectations. These cross bars truly simplify getting my carrier on my Xterra, traveling and carrying extra gear on the roof of my car. Installation was a breeze thanks to the universal design that fits seamlessly with side rails up to 50 inches. The package came with clear and concise instructions, making the process quick and hassle-free. The sturdy aluminum construction not only provides durability but also gives them a sleek and modern look. One of the standout features of these cross bars is their versatility. They easily accommodate various accessories such as cargo baskets, roof boxes, bike racks, and kayak carriers. This flexibility allows me to customize my setup based on my specific needs, whether I'm heading out on a camping trip, going skiing, or simply transporting oversized items. In terms of performance, the Apex Side Rail Mounted Cross Bars provide a secure and stable platform for my gear. I've tested them on long highway drives and rough terrain, and they have held up remarkably well. Even at high speeds, there is minimal wind noise and no noticeable drag, which is impressive. Additionally, the integrated locking mechanism gives me peace of mind knowing that my belongings are safe and secure while I'm away from my vehicle. The added security is especially valuable when parking in public areas or when leaving the car unattended for an extended period. Another aspect worth mentioning is the cross bars' lightweight design. They add minimal weight to the vehicle, ensuring there is no adverse impact on fuel efficiency. Plus, they are easy to remove and store when not in use, which is convenient and saves space. Overall, I highly recommend the Apex Side Rail Mounted Aluminum Roof Cross Bars to anyone in need of a reliable and versatile solution for carrying extra gear. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast, a frequent traveler, or simply looking to expand your storage options, these cross bars will not disappoint. Their durability, ease of installation, and secure fit make them an excellent investment for any adventure-seeking individual. I have been thoroughly impressed with the performance and quality of these cross bars, and I'm confident they will enhance your travel experience as well. Don't hesitate to give them a try—you won't be disappointed!

-The bars felt sturdy upon taking the out of the package
Vehicle: 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport (3.7l V6) I purchased this product to fit a Jeep Liberty roof rack. We purchased a Yakima Big Stack Kayak Carrier (http://www.amazon.com/Yakima-BigStack-Rooftop-Canoe-Surfboard/dp/B0012SFGW6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406410918&sr=8-1&keywords=yakima+big+stack) and also a double wide hard box cargo carrier. So far, we have driven about 4000 miles with these cross bars and they have worked flawlessly (we moved from Anchorage to Tacoma at about 2600 miles, then went on a honeymoon road trip from Tacoma to south central California and back). Here are my thoughts: Pros: -The bars felt sturdy upon taking the out of the package. The bars' sliding action feels snug and well designed. -The locking mechanism that keeps these bars from being stolen seems to do the trick. I am not sure how easy it would to simply break the locking mechanism off and take the bars, but so far we have had no issues with this. -The whirring, whistling noise when driving at speed is not as bad as I thought it would be. -These bars supported two 50 pound kayaks and some gear on a trip down and back up the west coast. -The ends of the crossbars that squeeze to grip onto your length-wise sport bars seem to grip very tightly. Careful not to over-tighten. The grip feels good and firm and does not seem to shift during transport. Cons: -The whirring, whistling noise. The noise these bars make at speed is determined a lot by what they are carrying. For example, our two kayaks were heavy enough to flex the bars a bit (but not to the point there was any damage or risk of damage to the product). However, the weight did make a concave shaped gap which made the whistling louder than with our hard box cargo carrier. Still, though, it wasn't loud enough to annoy or distract us, especially when chatting or listening to music. -The spinning/locking knob that tightens the product as well as locks them to prevent theft seems like it could be circumvented with a hammer or a crow bar. Then again, I am not sure how the mechanism works to the extent that I can say that a hammer COULD circumvent the locks. Overall: I was able to find these for $98 bucks along with a close-out sale on a hard box cargo carrier for $40 at Home Depot. $140 for the setup and it has lasted us literally 4k miles within the last 6 weeks. Very good product, albeit not perfect. My only suggestion is, if they can, try to find a way to prevent flex in the bars. With our hard-box cargo carrier, there was literally no flex in the product because the cargo box was centered and distributed evenly among both cross bars. However, our kayaks (100 pounds together) are carried only along one side of the vehicle (in our case, the driver side). This caused the bars to flex a little bit when our pull-straps were wrenched firm to hold the kayaks in place. This was NOT a problem and was not alarming at all. But a little more firmness in the bars couldn't hurt. Highly recommend this product. Very good, solidly built, and AFFORDABLE! A+

Fits 2008 Toyota Highlander--almost perfect(?)
I'm assuming it would fit on later Highlander models too since the design hasn't changed. When I first got the rails out I took a look at the locking mechanism and I had the following thoughts: a) This is not going to be sturdy enough b) This is not going to fit my vehicles rails (a risk taken due to the fact that they do not provide a list of vehicles that these bars actually fit. Yes, they have that annoying chart that you have to take several measurements on, which I did. But you never know. Would've been nice to have that confirmed at time of purchase. Being a cheapskate, I ultimately decided to order the product because it was such a good price) However, I was pleasantly surprised that they accomplish both of the above, and do so very well. Installation was a snap, about 15 minutes and without the need for tools (screw knobs by hand), but would've been less if I actually saw the directions that fell out of the box when I opened it (haha). Once tightened, the bars seemed incredibly sturdy, and the aluminum finish looks great. My only gripe is that there is a disclaimer in the manual: 'temporary use only. remove when not in use and in bad weather' I was under the impression I would be able to leave them on at all times. I mean it makes sense, especially for the price, but that should be mentioned more prominently somewhere in the product description. Also, even though I'm sure taking them off would be just as easy, it's still kind of annoying that I have to do it. To my knowledge, the factory cross bars made by Toyota are a permanent accessory that you don't have to remove. They cost $200, so that's why I didn't buy those in the first place. For the convenience, though, it might have been worth it to spend more money. I guess at the end of the day I'm still happy because I spent about a third of what I would with the Toyota bars, but again, would've been nice to know at time of purchase.

Quality fit and finish - much better than oem at a good price.
'07 Suburban (same as Tahoe or Denali)- I decided to put these bars to the test before leaving a review. A 650 mile trip with an overloaded Yakima Space Case was a good test, I'd say: Installation was easy and straightforward. The knob-clamp design doesn't require tools and provides a tight, secure mount. The locking method is simply a key that disengages the knob from the clamp, so tightening and loosening can only be done with the key in place. Pretty simple, but DON'T LOSE THE KEYS! Fit on my Suburban using the stock rails was nearly perfect width-wise. The bars sit an inch or two higher than the stock bars. Keep this in mind if you have tight tolerances with stock bars with overhead doors, aprons or parking enclosures. Appearance is nicer than stock and the bars look like factory upgrades - not last minute add-ons like lesser quality bars. Quality seems to be very good. After installing my Space Case, the bars did flex a bit, but this was due to the case being overloaded. They held up quite well after being pushed beyond their limits (not something I recommend here).... The trip was uneventful and after the case was unloaded, the bars returned to their normal contours. I'm very happy with the price, appearance and performance of these bars, especially for the price.

Right product, right price.
When considering my review, note that I have no previous experience with any brand of roof-rail crossbars. 1)In my opinion the quality of materials and construction seems high; these do not have a cheap, flimsy feel. 2)These cross-bars had no problem fitting a 2009 VW Jetta Sportwagen, though I did not attempt to open the sunroof while they were on the vehicle. 3)They can be installed and removed relatively quickly and easily, no tools required. They supported a Sears X-Cargo XL 15 cu ft rooftop carrier with no problems. With practice, I expect to get both crossbars installed and the cargo carrier secured in about 30 minutes 4)Noise was noticeable but not excessive, and I did not notice a significant negative impact on gas mileage (400 mile highway roundtrip at 70 mph) I expect to use these 2-4 times per year, putting them on and taking them off after each use. Similar products may be available for less, but I can't comment on how they might compare...what I will say is that these do exactly what I need them to do and I can't come up with a single reason to pay 3x or 4x more for VW OEM, Thule, Yakima or any other brand.

The Cyclinder Lock Piece (where the key goes) came right out of both bars on first use!!!
I purchased this as a Mothers Day present. On her first use when trying to unlock the safety lock on the rails the entire lock piece came out. Keep in mind they are still tight on the car so how are you suppose to get it off now?!? Emailed the company twice and have yet to hear back. Maybe it was a lemon but getting no response from the company is not reassuring. Also, it will fit the listed rails on your vehicle, HOWEVER; check the width of your rails (the actual rail not rail to rail on the car). The locks that slides onto the car rails extends pretty wide, but on our RAV4 they were maxed out to get them to go on and ripped off some paint actually. Will update if I get some sort of solution from this seller.

Amazingly GREAT deal and GREAT roof bars!!!
Was looking for some bars to throw on our new '13 Forester and bounced all over checking things out. Wanted something a little wider that the roof for two kayaks and the length on these was exactly what we wanted. Also didn't want round bars or cheap-o square aluminum tubing. The aero-style of these was great and load rating above other similar bars. Was a bit skeptical with the cost so low but decided to take a chance. Rails arrive quickly and were amazingly easy to install. Locking hubs worked GREAT (we would suggest alternating the locks so they are not on the same side, more secure). Took less then ten minutes from box to roof. So quick to put on and off we only put them on right when we need them. Bars are solid, good heavy construction, very high quality, versatile as the mounts slide in the rails, quick and easy on and off, could ask for better units. Have used many times already. Much quieter then round or square bars. We would highly recommend these! A helpful suggestion we would pass along. When we first installed them we used a tape measure to get the extended parts of the bars the same distance on both sides of the vehicle. When we had it set correctly we marked a line on both ends with a permanent marker where the mounts sit to have the extensions equal. Now when we put them on we just line up the mark and tighten them down, perfect every time :O)

Perfect on 2013 Rav4 but bend..
***Edit....after loading these with a simple cargo box and minimal weight, they bend an awful lot under the load. And the load is mostly on one side near the mounts and not perfectly centered, so it makes me wonder about the true strength of the actual bars if I were to really load them right in the middle. We unloaded some weight out of it and it still bends noticeably. Probably won't break but doesn't look good either. The bars are pretty lightweight.*** Fit perfect on 2013 Rav4. Had to adjust them to the max to squeeze them onto the rail but they fit. Overhang by about 3 inches from the rail in front and 5 in the rear, so IMO perfectly. Seem very strong and the lock works great. Great buy!!
