Q: My white dog is getting yellow stain on her mouth from this food. Is it due to the salmon?

Thank you for asking such a great question, we would be happy to help. Staining around the mouth is caused by saliva. The saliva contains a substance called porphyrin, that causes staining on the fur. It would not be caused by something in the food, but if the dog has developed a food intolerance or food allergy, this could explain excessive salivation. It is much more likely that something else is causing an increase in saliva production. Great question! Our Limited Ingredient Diets will contain a much lower protein percentage as this is a single-animal protein-based recipe. Our DL-Methionine is a natural amino acid to help with bladder support. You can always follow the feeding guide provided on the bag, which would instruct 5 cups daily, however, depending on your pet's age and the activity level you may be able to adjust your feeding by 1/3 cup or 1/2 cup.
