Dear, the 5 pile height settings on the vacuum cleaner is used for adjust the height of the floor nozzle to suitable for different kinds of floor. If you want to adjust the height of the vacuum cleaner, you can release the floor nozzle by placing foot on the floor nozzle release button (page 12 of the manual) and pulling back on handle to change the handle position.
