When it came in, I did notice a slight smell, but after a few days sitting on my work table, there is no perceivable smell. Works well, when used as a mallet. Not so much when I tried to make mashed potatoes. I would imagine it'll be useful in a variety of situations and if fell into the hands of a wrong person, they can do a lot of damage, such as hurting people and such, so I always make sure to securely hide it away in my tool chest.

I purchased this thing because I got sick and tired of my Hubcaps getting loose and having to slap them back in place with the palm of my hand. Each time I ended up cracking them so I figured I'd give it a try with this Rubber Mallet. It did not help and I wrecked my hubcaps worse but that's not the fault this Mallet. Is a mallet. You hit things with it and they get hurt. On a more serious note, this is lightweight and it has a firm grip/hit once you use it. I rather purchase from here in Amazon than any other place as they overcharge you for it. We use it for hitting a bowl of concrete so that it can come together. That is the only purpose we use it for. However, after hitting bowls for many weeks, months and potentially years. These mallets keep going and they do a good job at it.

Wrap your hands around the solid wood shaft; it's not too thick and not to thin... it's just the right girth. It also is just the right length for giving things a good, solid pounding. The thick, firm head really helps when you pound your stakes into the ground.

I bought this to assemble a large set of steel shelving, and doggone it if I don't keep finding new uses for it. If you do a lot of Ikea furniture, or even if you enjoy working out in the wood shop from time to time, this sturdy little mallet is well balanced and meets the challenge.

My husband thought I was silly when I told him I wanted a rubber mallet. I bought this one and guess who always seems to need it now that we have it...my husband. So far this has been a great tool. My husband has used it to put together industrial metal shelving and hammer out a dent in the door of his truck (it's a work truck and doesn't need to be perfect). I've used it on smaller arts and crafts projects. It's inexpensive and definitely a tool every household should have!!!
