Can i use this to run a 120v fan with a 24vac thermostat?

You could run 120v from the source (wall, etc) to the fan power and the transformer input, and the 24v transformer output to the thermostat.

Why black wire is common and white wire is 120v? Is it the white wire is not supposed to be common?
