Brush makes hair "look good" and makes for a calmer hair brushing in the mornings
I have mixed feelings about this brush. This brush was recommended to my wife by the kids' hairdresser at the Snip-its salon. This is the hairbrush that they routinely use at the salon. My wife bought it because the straight brush we used on our 6 year old daughters hair always pulled on the tangles and she would scream. That said with enough persistence the tangles came out and her hair was good. This brush almost never causes her to scream. It does not hurt her hair and the hair looks well kept. Now the problem is the word "looks" I find that the soft bristles just don't catch on the tangles. It combs out the straight hair making it look good, but leave all the tangles in the hair. So it's not really good, but does make her hair look good. In a pinch it is great and quick to use, especially when I don't want my daughter to put up a fight and scream that I am pulling her hair. The other downs side is that the pink body of the brush keeps detaching from the black bristle part. I just keep putting it back in place, but it would be nice if the brush held together better. All in all useful to have, but disappointing in how truly effective it is.

Solved my kid's autism hairbrushing refusal
My autistic kid flatly refused to brush or comb his hair, and we finally found this solution. This brush fixed that - it doesn't hurt him like others do, he likes how it feels on his scalp, and it glides right through tangles.

Not bad for curly hair too
This is my second Knot Genie purchase - I have a 22 month old with mounds of curly hair - about 3/4 down her back when wet! I had originally started her with a dense synthetic boar bristle brush - yeah, that was not right (I'm not so good with doing other people's hair). I then used a regular plastic ball-tipped bristle brush - that one I felt seemed really risky damage-wise. We got the Knot Genie with the handle first - it was great. Minimal effort needed to pull through hair (and for her we have to brush straight out of bath, as well as in the morning when she wakes up), and did not pull on her toddler hair/curls. We needed more portable options for diaper bag, and downstairs diaper caddy, so purchased two of the handle-free options. I will say that I like the handle option a little bit better - but that's partially because my hands are a little on the small side, and this is a wide brush. Great brush though - my little diva comes and sits in my lap for me to do her hair when I pull the brush out of the drawer.

IF YOU HAVE A CHILD WITH KINKY, CURLY, TANGLED HAIR - BUY IT!!
I have a 4 year old daughter that is half black half white and her hair is beautiful, curly, and gets super frizzy and tangled every morning. I use a detangling spray to wet her hair then brush with this and it has been amazing, she hates brushing her hair but she fights less while I am brushing with this because it does not hurt her, once i finally get her to sit down and let me do it, its quick and easy instead of her screaming saying i am hurting her. HIGHLY recommended for tangled hair and difficult children !!!!

High expectations - MET! - Revision
UPDATED Review:When i received this brush in the mail, I tried using it like a regular brush, expecting it to pull through the tangles right away. I tried it a couple times, and then chucked it in a drawer when it didn't seem to product any results. About 6 months later, my husband saw me struggling to brush our little girl's wet, curly hair and asked why i wasn't using the knot genie? He pulled it out and showed me that if you continuously, yet softly, keep brushing down the hair, the knots eventually work themselves to the bottom and out. It makes an odd noise, as if the bristles are just brushing past the hair, but somehow miraculously it works. It DOES take a little longer than it would to brush with a regular brush, but since the crying fits are non-existent anymore the entire start-to-finish event is probably still the same amount of time. This brush should come with instructions - maybe it did and i tossed them out figuring i didn't need hairbrush instructions? it's been a while since i ordered it. Anyway, give this brush a try, and just be patient until you get the technique down. I feel so guilty that I gave a bad review without understanding the concept of the brush! And also, Kudos to husband for figuring it out.Orginial Review:I almost feel like the other reviews were written by people who sell the product. Unfortunately, this brush did little to nothing to ease post-bath brushings of my toddler's curly mop. She was excited about the color, size, and name of this brush when it arrived in the mail- especially after I assured her it would make the brushing experience much more tolerable. It doesn't pull through very well, and it just doesn't seem to be any better than any other inexpensive brush I've tried on her in the past - and I feel like I have tried them all. This will go in the drawer of unsuccessful purchases, along with the other 4 brushes, and I will continue my search! I gave it 2 stars rather than 1 because it is cute, therefore somewhat more appealing to a toddler than a regular brush.

A Different Kind of Brush
I bought our first Knot Genie from a salon that swore it did wonders for tangles. My daughter, the one with the fine, always tangled hair, it takes us an hour a day to brush out the knots from the day before bought into the hype because she hated having her hair brushed. And I was willing to try anything to make hair brushing easier. When our first Knot Genie finally wore out, I bought another. Now it "hurts" to have her hair brushed again, but she still doesn't want to switch to a different brush. The Genie has pointy, smooth bristles in two different lengths. After using the brush on tangled hair for a while, the long bristles start to bend at the tips and flare out. I think this makes the brushing less effective. The Genie also doesn't have a handle, so if I hit a particularly tough knot, the brush sometimes slips out of my hand. I like the look of the turtle-shaped design, it's just hard to hold sometimes.I'm not 100% sold on the Genie. The hour of brushing pre-Genie is maybe 30-45 minutes of brushing with the Genie, but I can't get the kids to agree to another hairbrush...and I want them to brush their hair. We do love the bubblegum pink color!

Works Awesome!
My ex had suggested I buy one of these brushes for my daughter. Since she has very curly hair. This brush really does work like a charm for getting out knots and tangles in very curly hair.
