Information you need
I don't write many reviews but I felt one was needed here because when I started looking into purchasing a slide board I found the existing reviews to be lacking. There seem to be quite a few questions concerning what length of board to get (and rightfully so). The length you need is determined by 1) leg strength, 2) height, and 3) intended purpose. The taller and stronger you are, and the more you want to focus on strength, the longer board you should have. A 5' 5" speed skater with massive quads would need a 10' board while a 6' senior would probably want a 6' board. I'm 5' 9", bike 5,000 miles a year and have fairly strong legs. The first week I could have used a 6' board. Right now 7' feels right. By spring I'll probably need 8' or more.Moving on to purpose—the only way to travel across the board since you have no skate edge to push off of is to push off of the end board. That means you have to travel the ENTIRE length of the board to get to the other end board so you can then travel back across. The longer the travel distance the stronger your push needs to be. If I was focusing solely on stamina I would want a 6' board. However, I want a cross training option to keep strength in my legs during winter months so I went for the longer distance.Using the board is entirely an exercise in lateral motion which is the opposite of what I do in cycling, so my strength and stamina did not immediately translate. I tired surprisingly fast so I started with 1 minute intervals spaced with 1 minute of rest. I've had four knee operations and I wanted to focus on form first before I really started cranking things up. Within two weeks though I was up to seven 90 second intervals followed by two 120 second intervals. (I'm going to stick with the intervals because it's a great way to build strength so I don't really have an idea of how long I could go in a single stretch.)In three weeks the difference is remarkable. I've gained a tremendous amount of strength in my upper glutes and quads and this has already made a huge difference on the bike. The lateral motion on my knees is not bothersome because I built up SLOWLY.I recommend putting a yoga mat down underneath the board if you are using it on a hardwood floor, otherwise the board slides and compromises your workout. I bought some board shoes (skateboard shoes) to protect my feet and bought some Obsidian booties because the ones that came with the board didn't seem like they were high quality. An application or two of lemon pledge helps with the slickness of the surface. I don't really mind a bit of a slower surface since I'm going for strength over anything else.If the booties were better and the board slid just a bit less this would have been a 5 star review. This has already been a well spent $150.

clever item, good workout, not for beginners
i bought this as a home workout option. i am a 5'9" female and the 7ft version is probably too long for me, in retrospect the 6ft would have been better. the slide board is no-frills and very simple. however, it's not as easy as it looks! i put mine behind my couch which in the middle of my living room. that way, i can hold on to the back of the couch for stabilization. i don't think beginners should try this w/out supervision, you can fall and get hurt so be careful out there! that all said, it is a great strength and cardio workout, and really focuses on glutes and legs.

I would recommend this to anyone.
I love this product. I give it a 4 only because as one other person on the review says the something, the booties are on the cheaperside but do work. I had a bootie rip after about a dozen sessions on it. So I would buy better booties or if you have a big sock toput over your shoes, that works also. The size is a big thing to choose, from, I have had one in the past and it was 6ft so I knew it would be to short, so I went with the 7because I thought the 8 would be to big. I was right, I am in my 40's trying to get back in shape because I still play ice hockey soI do have some strength in my legs. I am 6ft tall, I think if you are 5'10" or under with average leg strength you may want the 6ft one.although it really does come down to you leg strength, everyone is different. Now as the movement of the board, mine does not move like my old one, this has a felt bottom to the board, so on hardwood ortile floor, common sense tells you that it will most likely slide, and some reviews on here confirm that, as far as the yoga matt underit working, I do not know I don't use it on a hard floor. I use mine in my bedroom on the carpet, and this thing moves so little that youwill not know it until you are on it for a good five to six minutes, and it moves so little that if you only a half a foot from the wall youwill not even hit the wall. So if have to use this on a hard floor like hardwood or tile, you can try a yoga matt, or buy like an arearug with a rubber bottom to go underneath it and you should be fine. Now as far as the people that have said about it loosing the slickness, hey there is this cleaning product that was invented a longtime ago to dust your house, it is called pledge, spray this stuff on your slide and wipe it off, and your slide will be as good asnew. Now the only thing is how long it will last, I have used it only about 12 or 15 times. The ends of the board have a wood boardon them so it is nice and has some weight to it and it feels more solid the others. But if it falls apart in a year I will have to takesome stars away.

Great workout
I'm a cyclist looking for off season workout..........stationary bikes can be rather boring so I decided to give this a try. All I can say is WOW! Great cardio workout, and you feel your inner thighs burn! I've only had this for a short time so quality is still undecided (looks well built though). But what I do know is that I would purchase another one if some thing happened to this one.If your looking for a great indoor workout that takes up little space and stores in a snap.................look no further!!

(Do like it, though
Works well, but slips on multiple surfaces. Have to put weights on end. Was subsidized 50% by employer as a fitness item. Would not have bought otherwise. (Do like it, though.)

Fun, but moves too much.
The slide board is a nice workout, but the board itself moves around too much on the floor. It was advertised not to move around, but even my 110 lb. daughter makes the board move, which takes away from the effectiveness and ease of the workout.

One Star
Doesn't work on hard wood floor, only worked a few times, now you don't slide anymore

A Struggle
If you're female and under 5'5", get a shorter one. I struggled to slide from one end to the other despite all best efforts. Ugh. There should be leg length requirements listed on these!
