HELLA 003399801 Supertone 12V High Tone/Low Tone Twin Horn Kit with Red Protective Grill, 2 Horns

I used these to replace my old horns after one stopped working. They are bigger than the original horns, and they are very loud. If you are trying to be discreet, forget about that! They made me so self conscious that I refused to use the horn much on the day after the installation. These are very powerful and echo when honked. They seem durable. The price was worth it.

I recently purchased a 2025 Subaru Forester, and it came equipped with a horn that could best be described as well this side of anemic. I can’t quite capture the sound it made, but suffice it to say it wouldn’t have disrupted evening prayers in a cloistered nunnery. Since I live so far out in the rural wilderness that one must walk toward town to go hunting, I regularly encounter a veritable horde of wildlife worthy of the fire scene in Bambi. With that said, I need an authoritative horn—something capable of announcing to the denizens of the woods that a rather large, fast-moving object is arriving and possibly not in full control. After browsing through a digital bazaar of countless horns here in the Amazon mercantile, I decided to take a chance on this pair of Hella horns. I’d like to claim that their extensive technical specifications swayed my decision, but that would be a lie of convenience. The truth is, it was their glorious red, candy-like color that spoke to the tiny child within me—the one who shouted, “I must have them!” With my dubious selection process now exposed, I can report that serendipity decided to smile upon me. These little red pancakes were delightfully easy to install, and—by some miracle—Subaru had already provided adaptable mounting points beneath the bonnet of my worthy steed. When I pressed the horn button, I was rewarded with a loud, two-tone, gloriously raucous blast. The child in me grinned a lascivious grin of delight, and I pressed the button again… and again… chasing endorphins like Pavlov’s most self-satisfied dog. Eventually, I stopped—mostly out of concern for my own moral character. That afternoon, taking the Subaru down the open road, I realized these horns were everything I had been looking for. I should have known—being German, they could produce nothing less than a trumpet of Teutonic glory, as though my Subaru were parked at the gates of Valhalla demanding entrance. To be honest, I now find myself inventing reasons to use them. Each blast conjures the sound of a road rally, and I half-expect a co-driver beside me screaming, “Hard right! Straightaway! Hard right again!” at the top of his lungs. They are, in every sense, a thing of automotive glory.

My dad can't stop laughing, and honestly, it’s become a bit of a running joke. About the horns themselves. First off, the red protective grill gives them a pretty cool look—if aesthetics are your thing, these don't disappoint. Installation was straightforward enough, not rocket science, but here's the kicker: these horns are LOUD. I mean, really loud. The kind of loud that gets everyone's attention on the road (and possibly a few startled glances, wondering where that sound is coming from). The twin horn setup, offering both high tone and low tone, creates a sound that's undeniably powerful, albeit not the deep, throaty honk you might expect from a truck. Instead, it’s a sharp, penetrating sound that slices through traffic noise with ease. So, would I recommend the HELLA Supertone Horns? Absolutely—if you're looking for something that packs a punch volume-wise and you can appreciate the humor in turning heads with a sound that defies expectations. Just be prepared for some confused looks and a good laugh, especially if your vehicle looks nothing like a Volkswagen

Came in good condition but the red had some scratches even tho it was in a plastic but I painted it to subaru cherry blossom red.

This is my 3rd set of Hella Supertone horns. The first 2 were purchased long ago to upgrade the sound of a Mercedes and Land Rover. They were made in Germany. This set was made in India. Other than buying factory replacement horns for a vehicle whose horn sound you like, buying horns based on an expectation of a certain sound or tone is actually quite difficult. I like the sound of the Supertones, but I knew that before buying them. They really sound like Mercedes Benz horns from the 1970s - early 2000s. If you like that sound, you will certainly like these. Others may find the sound kind of shrill. One thing is for sure: any prolonged blast is impossible to ignore. You will be noticed. You will be heard. These horns are directional, so attention and planning should be made to aim them forward if possible. The enclosed mounting "bracket" is useable only if you are replacing a similar style horn. Please note that you may need to fabricate a custom bracket to mount the horns properly. This is what I needed to do. Also note that these horns are actually quite large and may not fit where thd original horn was mounted. I prefer the slightly smaller 4 inch horn for ease of fitment. These were installed in a 2007 Ford Escape. I had to remove both inside front fender liners and the front bumper cover to access the original horn. Disassenbly and reassembly took over 4 hours. Fabricating mounts and installing all wiring to and from the horns and relay took a few more hours. It was worth it, but it was a full days work. Plan your time accordingly. I must note that you must use the included relay or be certain that your own vehicle has a dedicated 15 amp circuit for the original horn. Most will not. Failure to wire horn as instructed will result in lower volume. This voltage drop accounts for some of the poor reviews of this product. Also, the instructions are very clear only if you are used to reading electrical diagrams. Otherwise, they stink. LOUD AF and quite a distinctive sound that is sure to grab anyone's attention. Personally, I would love it louder, because I don't give AF about other people.

I now have 3 sets of these horns installed on my vehicles. I will soon be running 2 sets on one car as it is my personal show car and if Im driving it...whoever needs to be "alerted" will hear me! I am a car enthusiast as a hobby. I am one of those people who cant leave anything stock. Weather its a car, truck, SUV, call phones, laptop, etc...I have to modify it. And lets face it...stock factory car horns usually suck! In many cases it is embarrassing! Installation can be difficult depending on the car simply because these are larger than the factory horns and mounting them can be time consuming. Even knowing how to wire them in it still takes an afternoon to do a proper, clean install. Sometimes, to do a real clean install will take a day. These horns are NOT plug-n-play. They do require wiring and hardware not supplied. As everyones setup will be different, so it is impossible to include these parts in the kit. Once installed these horns work exactly as described....LOUD! Once you see the look of terror from some random driver the ends up with an ear-full of horn through there open drivers window, you will know the cost of these was justified. If you choose to hook these up to your alarm system as well, be ready for a very loud and almost obnoxious sound. These work great when hooked up to the alarm siren, even overpowering the siren in most cases. These are the best sounding horns out there. They are loud, sound great and perform every time. In no way are these cheap horns in terms of quality or performance. I will use these on every car I own and recommend them to everyone who asks. UPDATE: On my factory Nissan keyless entry, the horns sound funky and wimpy when locking the vehicle due to the short burst and most likely low voltage singal sent to the horns for the keyless system. It sounds aathmatic. UPDATE #2: The low pitch horn died on my wifes car. It now sounds funky as only the high pitch works. A little disappointed as these only lasted about 5 years for me now.

Hella stuff is usually awesome, these horns, not so much. The lasted exactly 135 days before one developed an internal dead short and blew the fuse. Since they were new I assumed it was everything but the horns. After hours of troubleshooting and head scratching I disconnected both horns and slipped in a new fuse. I then plugged in one of the horns and it worked. I plugged in the second horn and the fuse blew. I swapped them out with an old set I had laying around and now all is good again. Hella, what happened to the quality you use to sell?

Loud. That is what these are. I've installed these on my Hyundai Santa Fe as the stock horn on that car is nothing but embarrassing. I managed to replace them with these Hella horns without having to remove the bumper. It can be done by just removing the headlights. It is very tight though! Using some spade connectors, I created a wire to go from the horns to the existing wiring, no need to use the relay that comes with the horns in my case which helped make it even easier. I'm no mechanic by any stretch of the imagination. Really pleased with these although the new sound is different to what you might expect. All I cared for what the loudness and I got it.

Habe mir beide Hupen eingebaut und was soll ich noch großes sagen als: Mega Hupen!! Klar, sie klingen etwas anders als die Serienhupe, aber sind deutlich lauter und sehen obendrein auch noch optisch sehr gut aus! Wenn man sie hinter seinem Grill platziert, wo sie gut zu sehen sind. Würde sie jederzeit weiter empfehlen!
