Colorful, animated pictures make this book a delight to the eye, not just for the age range designed for (5-8). Whilst written for the younger family members it is unlikely that a 5 year old will be able to read this book independently. However, they are sure to enjoy someone else reading it to them! The content is age appropriate with the illustrations helping to accentuate the meaning. The poems are short and attention grabbing.Where's the young boy's sister?Binoculars the wrong way round! Ever had one of your kids do that?What's waiting in the ice skating rink?If you have more than one child in your house you will certainly giggle over the poem, Toilet Trouble.This book is a fantastic example of an author NOT spelling everything out in mundane detail but rather allowing the pictures to tell their part thus leaving the obvious unsaid and giving room for the imagination to "play".There are 20 poems in this book, 10 of which are PART 2 of poems started in Book 1 of this series - If the Earth is Round. Is it imperative that you read the first book first? I didn't!What I don't like is the fact that punctuation appears to be very sporadic. A couple poems have NONE, some have some and others are fully punctuated.I was provided an advance copy of this book by the publisher. Last year we bought “If The Earth Is Round” for our youngest grandson. We were about to order Volume 2 of the Beginners series for him when our older two grandchildren totally shocked us. They told us that they had been reading the first volume to him at bedtime this past year and really enjoyed doing it. How nice that they could share such a nice experience with their younger brother. Now they are reading Volume 2 to him …precious! They love having the time together and are laughing their heads off.This whole experience has been so enjoyable.

I gave this book to my 3rd grade daughter and she was laughing out loud. She really enjoyed Vacuum Cleaner although she said she would be the one stuffing her brother in there. Her absolute favorite was Toilet Trouble. She enjoyed the idea of getting back at her brother who ALWAYS leaves the seat up! She is beginning to write poetry in school and at home. This book helped her explore how to rhyme words that are close, but not perfect matches and how to read aloud with the proper cadence. A must have for your creative little ones!!

My older children enjoy reading these with all their younger cousins and I chuckle to myself as I follow along from the kitchen. Forget the lame corporate fare from the Disney complex and the pushers of super hero nonsense. These books are in the tradition of classic Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein.

My 6 year old could not put the book down and read most of it in one sitting. Illustrations were amazing and was wonderful to have him explain to me the various meanings of the poems. His favorites included, 26 miles, Binoculars (were he explained to me why the elephant was so tiny) and My Darling Clementine. The author has an amazing way of relating to kids and getting them to giggle while they learn. Well done!

After reading the first series of books to my son and daughter, I bought multiple copies for my pediatric dental office. Parents and patients have all enjoyed them. Even though my kids are a little older now, they still found this new beginner book funny, so I bought multiple copies for my office again. As a parent, it’s also a nice length for bedtime for younger ones.
