Ok, I love this dvd. I wanted something that showed me more of the armorer side of the ar 15 I wish I found it sooner

Good content, fairly weak presentation
You can tell Caputo has presented this material often, he is pretty good and thorough with it. I knock it a bit for production quality. The lighting is weird, and there are a couple of spots where a better close-up (ie, the bolt assembly) or any close-up at all, (the barrel nut), would have been helpful. If I had never disassembled an AR before, and did not know what the scalloped barrel nut looked like, there would have been a long portion of this video where I would not have known what he was fiddling with or why. Bad show. All in all, pretty good content, but you'll need to supplement it with some of the better build and tech threads on the popular web forums.

Great video! I had the luck of actually attending his AR15 armorer's course in Burbank and it was also awesome.

If you are about to die watch this. It will make your life seem like an eternity!
The only difference between this and in-service-training (IST) is that I get paid to fall asleep during in service training. Seriously, you can tell this guys LE lineage by the way he speaks and presents. For those of you not familiar with IST, it's typically some dry, and I do mean dry instructor who is really in love with themselves parroting off everything they know in a way-too-formal, "I love me" routine. For me, it conjures up flashbacks. In essence, this guy is more concerned with demonstrating what he (thinks) he knows, as opposed to teaching the student what they need to know. Furthermore, the camera and editing leave a lot to be desired. It's not your normal Panteao quality. Finally, the backdrop(s), colt posters abound, and "I <3 Colt" was just too much to take.Note: I'm NOT judging Dean as a person. He might be a great guy for all I know. I'm giving my take on his presentation in this DVD.Finally If you are interested in a good DVD that covers this subject, check out Care and feeding of the AR by Jim Van Middlesworth. He is very relaxed, conveys a lot of great information, and the informal two way dialogue will keep you upright without having to resort to red bull and coffee.

Make Ready with Dean Caputo
Lots of good info, BUT would be a lot better if he was so hung up on Colt AR15 firearms. Colt mite have the most AR15's made (mostly for the Military) but that doesn't mean they are the best. There are many AR15 Models out there that are much better then Colt and cheaper then Colt. Also he should have covered the 6.8 SPC round in detail, for the AR15 platform, which is now the SECOND most Popular AR15 round to the .223/556.
