The Best of The Ventures - Guitar Signature Licks Book/Audio Online

As a signature lick book, and not every song is complete. Being that this was my first guitar book, not counting the Hal Leonard Method 1 book, I didn't know that what I was really looking for was something like a Play Along book. However, for what it is, it is excellent. The breaks downs are simple and easy to understand. The demo tracks are excellent, and most of those that are performed at a slower pace for practice are well-chosen. The tab for Walk Don't Run contains every note of the melody that you need to play the entire song, which I do, at least once a day. In fact, it was to learn that song that I bought the book. And I thought that I would never learn to play the whole thing. Yet, a few short months later, I could play it from beginning to end. I thought I was going to cry tears of joy the first time through. Wipeout seemed impossibly fast at 150 BPM. It isn't. As I noted above, the book does not include every part of every song, but you can piece the fragments together. For example, the tab does not include the solo from Wipeout, but if you know C Minor pentatonic scale, you can easily figure it out, or play something that approximates it.

Good way to Learn " The Ventures way.

If you like The Ventures you gotta have this book. Their greatest hits are tabbed so you can have fun soloing or put together an arrangement to play with your buddies or at a gig. I'm working my way through each tune with my Strat, enjoying every minute. A great book!

The disk is helpful in playing along with the music book. You have several parts for each song in the book that you may play along with. What can I say, its just a music book. It will not make you a shredding guitar virtuoso but it is fun.

This book includes some fascinating history and comments about the musicians as well as some rather knowledeable insights on the musicology/music theory behind the compositions. I found the accompanying CD to work well, and the slowed demo tracks maintained the proper pitch to correlate to the sheet music. I had a lot of fun listening to (and playing) the included tunes, but a few are incomplete, as another reviewer has said. Specifically, the intro to Perfidia just isn't there...and the second verse and outtro are missing for Hawaii Five-0. Very frustrating!! Overall a good source, but I can't understand why there are such obvious ommisions.

The tabs are incomplete, if you want tabs for the whole song do not purchase .

Disappointing. I'm fairly good at transcribing tunes. I'm not a Ventures fan but I wanted to learn a couple of their songs without spending hours transcribing. I was hoping that this book would save some time but that wasn't the case. Songs aren't complete so I had to transcribe missing parts. Judging by YouTube videos, fingering positions aren't always accurate. Knowing this, would I still buy this book? Yes, but elbow grease is required to learn these songs.

Songs are incomplete. Hawaii Five-O is only 2 pages. There is an introduction containing some history of The Ventures, there are some descriptive lessons for each song, and an accompanying CD (including some slowed down parts) but I would trade that all in for complete transcriptions. I have not plugged in to compare the accuracy. Giving this 2 stars out of the box. I give myself 1 star for not reading the previous review. Now to search for a better Ventures book. Might be avoiding the "Signature licks" series from now on.
