Just terrific
Bought this for my self, but it was too large and my dad wanted it, so it became a gift, but not before I had time to look it over and check it out.Color: First, the OD is just gorgeous. The picture on Amazon is a little washed out. It's actually almost exactly the green Springfield uses on their Fully Loaded Operator 1911s or the DuraCoat Aug Green color.Material: The material is light-medium weight but warm enough from what I can tell--it's April in Arkansas, so right now there's not a lot of cold to test it against. The inner light fleece lining is very soft, and I think it will do well trapping some extra heat as the shell reflects some heat back and repels water. Note, the jacket is not water proof per se. The material is designed such that all of the pores are much smaller than water droplets, but if you're in a really soaking rain, some water will seep through, or so the tags and a friend of mine who's had his longer say.Fit/Size: I'm 6', 180 lbs and a medium is PERFECT for me. Since I got this one in large, it works for my dad who's more along the lines of 6' 200 lbs.Amenities:Pockets, pockets, and more pockets. There are two handwarming pockets with a decent amount of room. Each sleeve has an upper arm pocket (both with d-rings also) that's perfect for an ipod, cell phone, extra mag(s), GPS, etc, and the left sleeve has a forearm pocket that's very similar. All outside pockets are zippered with small paracord pulls. There are also excellent inside pockets. The sleeves have velcro adjustable cuffs so you can keep wind out and position the sleeves at a comfortable height. Though the picture doesn't show it, the closers are black, which is so much better than the OD on the picture. They really accent the jacket well. The waist has a drawstring with retainers on each side of the front, so you can adjust the waist to your needs based on rain, wind, fit, and look. I find that the jacket fits at my waist perfectly, but others may want to adjust.Large zippered vents are located under each arm. These are not mesh vents like you might find on a motorcycle jacket. They are unimpeded, completely open vents. You simply unzip and temp inside your jacket drops quickly. They are pretty large too, so you can get some decent cross-vent going. The hood does add some bulk to the neck, but I don't think it's as bad as a lot of people have said.Summary: So far my dad loves it. If it spontaneously combusts or something, I'll update this review.

Great jacket for its jacket and for most uses, you do get what you pay for even if it's a deal.
This jacket is supposedly very similar to TAD (Triple Aught Design) Jacket, which costs about $400 if you can find one.PRO:Lots pocket, when I travel, I can just carry most things on me such as external battery pack, gloves, cables, headphone, camera, headphone, etc.Water repellent. I walked in the soaking rain for about an hour, there were some water sipping through the zipper, but other than that, I am dry. Doubt it can handle too long in pouring rain though.Warm. On a sunny 25 F degree day, I can wear a T-shirt and this jacket, then I am good to go! Else, I just add a fleece or two then I am good.Foldable pointy hood. Instead of the usual hood, it is point outward a bit create an additional coverage on the front like a hat does.CON:The zipper are not YKK so it can be tricky at certain time. The velcro to tight down around wrist is not that great and opens once every while, and can be annoying from time to time for people who have shorter arm like me.High pocket (PURELY PERSONAL). The side pocket is more to chest than to waist, which I am not really used to still.Zippers are not waterproof so water can and will sip through.May have some loose thread that needs trim. Normal for this price range, I would recommend inspect and fix them up yourself.CONCLUSION:This is no North Face Jacket or TAD quality as far as workmanship goes (loose threads here there), but it's quite well made if considering the price. For a simple daily or weekend long hike, around town, non-stormy winter weather, this jacket is more than enough. I would say this jacket works for most. If you planning to go on Mount Everest, hike the whole Appalachian Trail in a 30 day trip, working outdoor in arctic circle, this jacket is NOT for you. Remember, you are paying $90 for a jacket, which is the equivalent to a fleece or soft shell for most outdoor brands, don't expect it to be comparable to $300+ jackets. As always, you get what you pay for, even if it's a good deal.

Carefully consider size. Nice look. Functional.
I am satisfied with my purchase and the choices I made based on the many reviews. I can confirm the key issues often raised as follows:Quality: Very early to comment on durability but on face value and first impressions it’s ok. Not worse than similar jackets in the price range. Material looks and feels strong. Some details like neatness of the stitching are not as tidy as I would like it. I would say the finishing of the product can be better.Size: I agree with other reviews that this garment would fit small if bought strictly according to the Rothco size table. This garment works best as an outer layer with layers worn underneath, so consider buying one or even two sizes up for that purpose. I estimate that the Rothco size according to the size chart will fit like a (tight) shirt. For a height of 1.9m, weight of 115kg, chest width of 24” the XXL should fit comfortable with an under layer of fleece and a shirt WITHOUT feeling baggy. That is two sizes up from the Rothco size chart which, based on the Rothco size chart, is a Large (L). In conclusion, my estimation on size is that if you want to wear the jacket with under layers then two sizes up from the size chart, based on chest width, should be comfortable and one size up should be snug whereas on size might be too small (to wear with under layers). Update Dec 2023: I used this jacket in Germany during winter. It functioned very well as an outer layer protecting against mild wind and light rain while fitting comfortably with under layers of fleece and cotton.Size of the hood: Yes it’s big, however, if the string at the back of the hood is adjusted one actually gets a snug, unique fit. Not sexy but functional. So good for hunting. Will keep the wind off your ears while not cluttering your face. Alternatively it will accommodate other head gear like cap, headphones / ear protection, otherwise it is easy to remove and stow in the back pocket. Update Dec 2023: The hood worked very well in windy and mild rain conditions. The snug fit helped to keep wind out.Collar: Stuffing the hood inside the collar results in an unusual look and feel. It looks strange and feels like a salami around the neck. Maybe it has a function for some but for me the hood will be either out or off but not in the collar.Sleeves: Yes they are big but functional. If the intent is to wear layers underneath then the sleeve size is very functional because there is comfortable room to move, especially when putting the jacket on or taking it off - no getting stuck in a tight sleeve. Update Dec 2023: The space means the jacket fits comfortably when wearing under garments and loading pockets with phone, gloves, wallet, beanie and other stuff.Looks: Olive Green colour, texture and feel, velcro patches and pockets contribute to a nice military look.Zippers: From first impressions - operate them gently. They don’t feel robust but they are ok so far. Update Dec 2023: Still treating the zips with care especially when pulling the front zip all the way up. What I find works well is to pull the upper parts tight upward while closing the zip from the bottom.Stowage: Plenty! Back and chest pockets are nice and big. Chest pockets have small compartments inside - useful. Will come in handy for hunting / hiking type applications. Update Dec 2023: No regrets here! Great for having when walking around in a big city having all my stuff tucked away in my jacket leaving my hands free.Overall satisfied with my purchase. Will see about the durability. Update Dec 2023: No regrets. Very happy so far.
