Tempting concept, poor design and build.
Fragile plastic, the tabs holding this together broke, freeing the very sharp scalpel blade (cutter) to fall out. The slot that the blade was in is wide enough that I would be concerned about this in a bag or near finger tips. Overall, the concept seems great but the actual design and build are lacking. Happily, Amazon made it easy to return this.

Tough little cord
This product is a great little tough cord to have with you.....whether it’s in your car, garage, or the to go bag. The cord is great and having a dispenser is a really great idea. Atwood makes some of the best cord/rope in the business.

Better than the full size
I bought the original full sized TRD dispenser years ago, it's been sitting in a bin, since it was a flawed design. The full size has no way of respooling any excess cord without opening the case. This mini is open and doesn't suffer from the short falls of the full size. The open nature of this one means that it can just be spun back on.The full sized one is also clunky and rattles badly. This one is silent and steady. While there is a notch to hold the open end of the cord, there's no catch to keep the spool from rolling forward. The thread can jump the spool easily enough and get caught between the case and the spool. The cutting tool works well and the cord cuts off quick and cleanly with little effort. The over tool is lightweight and a good addition for personal carrying.

Handy, Handy, Handy, especially on a ladder and in tight spaces.
The media could not be loaded. Most annoying aspect (it's the brief video) - if you hold it and press down on that top shield/fender thingie, the entire thing shoots out of your hand. You have to have a finger in the hole. If you have big fingers, good luck. I wear a men's large glove - I can fit in a finger tip. Next annoyance - when the cord is pinched in the holder, you have to unspool several inches to be able to grab it again. Final annoyance - the blade is exposed. A spring cover or even a slip on cover would be great. I've already dented it by dropping it in my tool bucket. But, it's still handy. If you hold it correctly you can peel off what's needed and cut it at the same time. There's times when you can't use tie-straps and need cord. This works great. It's also handy because you don't neek scissors or a knife - but the cord should still be burned back or glued. The cuts are not the cleanest and start to unravel immediately.

With about 125 feet of 3/64 inch (1.18 mm) diameter cordage loaded on a replaceable spool, I find the built-in safety cut razor and belt hanging features (shown in photos) make one-handed dispensing easy. In nature, cordage is oftentimes difficult to come by – no worries if you have this in your Get To Safety and/or your emergency response kits.Atwood Rope Manufacturing makes this great tool and related cordage products here in the U.S.A. Replacement spools of the 100lb. test tensile strength micro cordage can be found at many sources (you can also use this same dispenser for nano cordage at 35lbs tensile strength and 1/32" -.75mm thickness). I’ve found innumerable uses for these products both at home and in field situations. As an emergency response instructor, I highly recommend this to all my students as an extremely durable and light weight problem solver. Thanks for reading, I sincerely hope you found my photos and comments helpful.
