I ordered this tea out of ignorance. I now have enough genmai cha to keep a small sushi restaurant going for months. I have literally been drinking this tea for over a year now and am only on my third bag. I would give this 10 stars for value (it's the neverending supply of genmai cha), but only about 3 starts for flavor; it isn't very high grade, it's more of the kind of tea that denim-clad Japanese factory workers probably drink in the break room with their bento boxes.

Maybe what I’ve used in the past has just been really mild but Ito En’s Genmaicha is strong stuff, in both scent and flavor. It smelled really great while brewing. But honestly, I took the first sip and the strength of it was overwhelming. I don’t think I even used that much in my tea ball. I’ve used tea bags from another brand (which I’ve really liked but I haven’t been able to make it to the local Asian grocery store) and I used up the large bag of loose leaf Genmaicha that I had bought when I was in Toronto a few summers ago. It’s not a bad flavor, it’ll just take some getting used to (ha, no turning back—I have 4 large bags now!) and making sure I scale back even more on the amt. These bags will last me awhile, which makes it a good value!

I’ve been through all four packs and reordered it. They came to me so fresh that 4-6 months later it was still fresh. Love the strong flavor and the strong rice flavor. I drink this every morning!! Don’t want to be without it.

Healthy tea

I would prefer more of the toasted rice genmai-cha but the ito-en matcha is very strong but it is good so its fine, just wish it was more genmai.
