TP-Link LS1008G, Litewave 8 Port Gigabit Unmanaged Switch

I've been using the TP-Link Litewave 8 Port Gigabii Ethernet Switch (LS1008G) and it's been a game-changer for my network setup. Setup and forgot it. It does it job so well I for it is there. I need to give it a restart. It's compact enought to mount anywhere and out of sight. Super easy to use. I use it in my entertainment stand for all the games TV and computer in there.

Works great.

Nice little unmanaged switch. Great for adding connections at your home. Always had good luck with TP-Link units. This might be a limited case, but mine came with one of the pins in Port 1 not seated in the port. I should have taken a picture before I fixed it, but I didn't. Wasn't terribly hard to get the wire pushed back into the slot and there's still enough bow/arc that I don't anticipate any connection problems. Always a good idea to check your ports on any RJ45 connection before installing cable. I still am rating this unit high because it's only a minor issue and it's easier for me to fix it myself than process a replacement, which I'm sure Amazon and Seller would have done without question.

If you've got a need for a simple, plug and play, 8 port gigabit switch that plays well with others (is compatible), is easy to setup, has good blinky lights, with a port capacity at a price point usually reserved for 4 ports or less this little guy is awesome. I use these a lot in IoT edge cases and have not had any compatibility issues with the uplink or the end stations. Plus, it looks cool and is quiet.

Small, efficient and cheap

NOTE: Amazon intermingles the 5-port and 8-port Litewave reviews. They're very similar and both reviews apply for the most part. I did experience the 5-port switch downgrading all devices to Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) speeds even though the links on both computers are verified at 1.0 Gbps. Transfers between them topped out at 90 Mbps. I swapped the TP-Link Litewave switch for an older Trendnet Gigabit switch and it gets 900 Mbps throughput. A contributing factor to the performance degradation may be chaining the 5-port Litewave to an 8-port Litewave, then to the router. This smells strongly of a firmware bug. Not only is the throughput reduced to 90 Mbps, there's a high amount of packet loss. Original review: The TP-Link Litewave 8-port Gigabit switch (LS1008G) is extremely compact and energy efficient. It's smaller than a metal case 5-port GreenNet Gigabit switch I got years ago, and I thought that one was small. Some people are concerned by the plastic case, but let me assure you that it's not an issue here. It barely gets warm, and I keep it in an enclosed closet. It's fast and has been reliable. I also bought the TP-Link Litewave 5-port Gigabit switch (LS1005G) and it has identical performance with the 8 port version. The only difference is the number of ports.
