The Steinsaltz Tehillim (Hebrew and English Edition)

I would buy it again in spite of the typeset because the translation is so accessible. I would have preferred a larger book with a bigger font. The Hebrew is on the right side of the page, the English on the left, linear style. The bottom 1/3 of the page has a second English translation that fills in the spaces between the words to create a fuller picture of the meaning of the text. It does not change the meaning, it clarifies using the actual words (in darker text) and lighter text for the expansion. Not all lines are expanded upon, only those that may benefit from it. Each Psalm has a short heading explanation of the purpose of the Psalm, occasionally another Psalm is referenced, as are the "twin" Psalms 112 and 113. There are books with much more detail about each stanza, but I am happy with this one.

I USE THIS BOOK IN MY BIBLE STUDY , ESPECIALLY WHEN I STUDY THE PSALMS..EASY TO READ AND FOLLOW ALONG, DOES GIVE ADDED INSIGHT TO THE VERSES IN PSALMS.. GOOD FOR ANYONE THAT IS SERIOUS ABOUT STUDYING THE BIBLE, ESPECIALLY THE PSALMS...

I LOVE this Tehillim! The translation is stunningly beautiful and poetic. The commentary is filled with priceless wisdom. It also has prayers at the end such as the Bedtime Shema and Travelers Prayer and more. The quality of the book itself is superb. Binding is excellent and paper is outstanding. This has just become my favorite Tehillim.

Steinsalz presents a valuable classical orthodox translation of the psalms as it is expected from the layman believer. As Kabbalist I expected him to go far beyond these commentary levels known already long before by interpreting the meanings of symbolic expressions and metaphers from a kabbalistic perspective and opening the deeper meanings of psalms to the reader. Nevertheless, if someone is just interested in a handy book of psalms in Englisch and Hebrew - here is it. The text is well readable and is not shining through to the reverse page as claimed by some other buyers. The quality of this kind of light paper is just the same high quality as known from other religious books like the bible etc. and is not a matter of complain !
