I believe this device will work in the end for my purposes. However, it is a bit large, so not nearly as handy as a standard clicker. I tested this with my German Shepherd and he walked up and sniffed it while I activated it. On the other hand, my older female Lab GSD mix freaked out and ran to hide. I mean it really upset her. I know I cannot use it around her, but it probably would make a difference for her than my male. I am more interested in using this for a very specific case–as a training tool and not to deter other dogs. Might have to try that though. :) All this to say, your milage will very.

Worked well for startling unleashed dogs so they leave my toddlers alone. I have twin 4 year old boys and we had a string of occurrences of unleashed neighborhood dogs chasing them. Needless to say, they are terrified of any unleashed dog now, and this keeps them at bay. My next door neighbor's yappy little beast doesn't yap at us anymore after only one run- in with this little baby - and his owner was none the wiser!!!!! It goes on all our walks with us now- perfect!!!!! Could not be happier with it!!!

works greak on smaller to medum dogs who wont stop barking. pit-bull and rotts and danes and boxers ect...... not so much. I am a cable tech and this has saved my a few times. I recommend to anyone who works in customer service where you go to the customers house.
