Makes green smoothies accessible for lazy people
I LOVE this book. (I paid for this book out my own pocket and did NOT receive it in exchange for anything). I love things that are simplified. This book does it all and not only has easy, delicious recipes, it gives great tips for beginners on everything from blenders to washing produce. But don't get me wrong: this book is great for the "experts" among us too. The organization of the book is very handy: I would consider it "functional" as in if you feel sick you'd go to the "Healing and Immunity Boosting" chapter; if you feel bloated or are focused on weight loss, you head to the "Lean and Green section", if you are heavy gym rat or runner, head to the "Fitness Fuel" chapter, and so on and so forth. I personally love the "Natural Beauty" chapter. I also love the index at the back of the book, so that makes it easy to find what you're looking for too. The little "tip" boxes are fun and add value to what is already useful information. The recipes are straightforward, use normal, easily accessible ingredients, and are easy to substitute other ingredients with if needed ( they have a guide for substitutions, recommended veggie-to-fruit rations, and similar info in the front section of the book). There are even a couple of "dessert" and savory recipes in here too. As an added bonus, the photos are gorgeous, and make actually reading the book a joy. The only thing I wish they added were calorie counts for each recipe. Obviously you can just throw each ingredient into a calorie counter app, and "save" the smoothies as individual meal, but it would be nice to just have that info in the book for those of us needing that level of specificity. Of course, the calories you're getting from the smoothie are guaranteed to be "good" (wholesome) calories, so it may not matter for most folks. Jen and Jadah make incorporating green smoothies into your life fun and effortless. I am getting ready for my wedding later in the year, and have started making smoothies for breakfast. I just pick two recipes for the coming week, put the ingredients on my weekend shopping list and, throw it in the blender in the mornings. Plus, the recipes make two servings, so if you're "cooking for one" like I am, each time you make a recipe, you have breakfast for two days made in advance. No matter if you're a green smoothie novice or die-hard fan, there's something in here for everyone. It's a "must-have" on your shelf, and dare I say, on your kitchen counter for years to come!

Rawkstar
Kudos Ladies! I have followed the Simple Green Smoothies blog for quite some time - I receive their emails and have tried many of their recipes. So, when I saw they had a book out - I asked them to send me one at a discount in exchange for my review. This is a beautiful book with a lot of photos. The smoothie photos look delicious. I like a lot of colorful photos in a recipe book. This book has made its way to a favorite shelf in my kitchen. In the How to Use This Book section - the gals describe Rawkstar as: an enthusiastic person who drinks at least one green smoothie a day. I like their personal journeys that they both share, how they met and brainstormed how to help their families become healthier. Page 4: To make a dramatic change in your health, we believe, involves embracing just one healthy habit at a time. Not 20. Not even 5. Start with one really good one. Start with a daily green smoothie. - I've always believed in "It's not a Diet. It's a Lifestyle" I have followed this rule for many years. - Jen and Jadah share their stories of being moms, being tired, not eating healthy, not enough time to prepare healthy meals, ..... - There is a 10-day kick start which I go back to now and then with a game plan of only 1 green smoothie a day for 10 days. Page 9-10 is a must read section. Why we don't count calories. I have noticed the more I drink green smoothies, the more I crave them. You'll notice increased energy, glowing skin, sharper clarity and focus, strengthened immune system, regular bowel movements, weight loss I have a standby smoothie thanks to these ladies from the very beginning - my fave is frozen banana, handful of spinach, handful of blueberries, frozen strawberries and mango and/or pineapple, coconut water, squeeze half a lemon, protein powder and flax seed. If I have green apples - I'll always add to whatever smoothie I'm having because I like the benefits and the flavor. I have tried spinach and kale but I am curious about Dandelion greens and turnip greens. Page 32 has a graph showing the different flavors of greens in categories like Subtle, Earthy, Peppery, Bitter and Herbaceous. Very informative - good info to know. I freeze the kale in cubes after watering down with coconut water. I use cupcake tins so I know right away the round ones are kale. I usually freeze the spinach whole in Ziploc freezer bags if I don't think I'll be able to get to it all before it can go bad. The book offers lots of recipes - I am going to try the homemade coconut milk and the homemade vanilla recipes because I like knowing what is in my drinks. I like hot drinks and had never considered making a hot drink with spinach so I am curious about the Mexican Hot Chocolate recipe on page 222. With spinach? Get out! I'm ok with spinach in my cold smoothie but hot chocolate? Hmmm........ I will post a follow up on my review here after I try it. Jim and I are of a mindset that we don't buy new until our old stops working. As long as it works and does what we need - we are satisfied. But, boy would I love to try a Vitamix blender based on what I've heard about them. This is not a crash diet of any sort - you drink the smoothie daily along with following a balanced diet - what I do notice - is I have more energy and I eat less because this smoothie fills me up. I look forward to trying many of these recipes and I really enjoy the photos of the families spending time together and being silly. I recommend this book and look forward to more from these gals. I have a feeling this book is going to have a lot of kitchen stains on it. It will be used with anticipation and love.

Poor Construction of a Great Resource
I've had several smoothie books in the past, but just could never really get going on them. I love how this recipe book offers many recipes of varying sorts, but also breaks down the best percentages of ingredients and order to put in blender as well as prep suggestions and basically all the info you need to make great smoothies. So far I've only made three, but all have been good. Only issue is that the paperback version I have is already falling apart and I've only had it a couple of weeks. I'd suggest a hardback if you have the option. I won't include that in my stars bc that's not on the content.

Buy this book
I have been a fan of the simple green smoothies website for a couple of months now. The website was recommended by JJ Smith in her 10 day Green Smoothie Cleanse book. This book contains the recipes on the SGS website and many, many, many more. It also includes helpful advice on beginning a green smoothie regiment. What I like about this book is that it's not complicated. when they say simple green smoothies, they mean it. so many smoothie books and online recipes call for fruits and veggies that are not in an average grocery store. I don't live near a Trader Joes or a Whole Foods, but I do live by several Kroger stores and I have found all of the ingredients I need in these recipes at Kroger. I have been drinking green smoothies everyday for about 4 months now. I would always struggle with recipes because I'm just not that creative when it comes to creating new smoothie blends. The recipes in this book are extremely tasty. I was actually surprised by the flavor of some of these recipes. you cannot taste the greens, but you can taste the burst of fruity flavor. Some taste better than candy. I have been able to curb my sweet tooth by drinking these healthy smoothies. If you're on the fence about this book try the recipes online first. once you taste them you will want this book. I like that the book isn't just about recipes, but it also tells about Jen's and Jadah's life experiences and how they got to this great point in their lives. I can relate to both of them and they both encourage me to continue in my green smoothis journey.

Good Introduction to Smoothies
This book has been great to get me started making smoothies with my new Ninja blender. The recipes are all very tasty and the tips throughout the book are very useful. (How to freeze bananas for instance). The only negatives are the recipes are suited more for large capacity blenders. The Ninja is not mentioned in the book's blender list, so I have to cut recipes in half and to fit in the largest Ninja cup. The process in the recipes is generally to blend the greens (mostly spinach) with the liquid first, then add the rest of the ingredients. This is fine for standard blenders. Ninja blenders only need one filling with ingredients since the cups are inverted on to the base, so I've had to stop and consider the process in every recipe. I think the thing that surprised me most is that there are no recipes using dairy products (except for two using coconut yogurt), and very few have protein added. Getting protein in smoothies is very important to me. There are some recipes that call for nut butters, oatmeal and other protein sources, but not yogurt or milk. There are suggestions throughout about adding ingredients to pump up certain nutrients and customizing your own smoothies. Of course, each recipe has no calorie or nutritional facts listed. Even though I wouldn't call these "Simple" green smoothies, I've found this book to be inspirational and a good tool for getting into the smoothie habit.

Top quality smoothies, top quality book
While you can't judge a book by its cover, the quality of this cover is a hint of the quality within. I'm a book lover, so I appreciate the little details. Though this is described as a paperback, the "paper" is sturdy and will wear well, important for a recipe book. I also love that the cover is hinge scored near the spine. Such a score allows you to fold back the cover and open pages in a way that saves the binding and keeps the pages in the book. Now on to the inside. The authors have put a lot of time into this book, making it more than just a collection of smoothie recipes. There is a discussion of their story, the health benefits of daily green smoothies, suggested blenders, and so much more. Even the sidebars contain practical goodies: how to clean your blender, the difference between blending and juicing, how to make smoothie "ice" cubes to save time and money and improve the quality of the smoothie... The recipes are accompanied by beautiful photos. (Kudos to the photographer.) They are also broken down into categories, such as "Energy Boosting," "Fitness Fuel," and even "Delicious Desserts." Once they have gotten you started with basic smoothie recipes, they give suggestions on how to vary the recipe by adding a few extras--and they give the benefits of each of these additions. A big plus is the index at the end, which allows you to find smoothie recipes by looking up a particular ingredient, useful when you have berries to use up or when you find there is a great sale on kiwi that week. One thing I found interesting is that there is no dairy in any of the recipes, surprising to me since all of my smoothies in the past contained milk or yogurt or both. You also won't find any "animal-based products, processed sugars, and gluten." On top of all this, the book is just well written, easy to understand and easy to read. As an editor and a reader I rejoice that the authors put in the time and effort to make this a great book inside and out.

Jen Hansard and Jadah Sellner are two women I would love to meet and make a smoothie with.
I never liked cooking, but I’ve always been interested in blending things to a pulp. (I had bought a shredder and it really helped my anxiety for some reason getting to shred stuff, so I was hoping it would be the same with a blender and it is, oh it is!) I’m getting older now and I’ve started learning how to cook, so why not learn about smoothies and blending too? I don’t have a big budget and cooking with a microwave for the last decade, I didn’t want anything with a lot of steps, lol. At least not at first! If we do something too challenging at first we could lose interest all together, right? So I decided on the Simple Green Smoothies book as it seemed to have what I was looking for. I’m vitamin deficient probably from a combination of health issues and a poor lifestyle, and I also have absorption problems. I really hate taking supplements, especially when you need 10 different ones, who wants to do that every day? So I needed good, green smoothies that were as easy as possible so I would stick to it. Jen Hansard and Jadah Sellner have created a book that not only has a large variety of budget friendly, good, green smoothie recipes, it has tons of information about smoothie culture without being judgmental if you get it wrong. This is the best first smoothie book I could have purchased, as it has everything from blenders, to buying/washing/storing produce, prep, -this book even teaches you how to blend, need I say more? It has it all! I can’t wait to try their smoothie ice pops this summer with my nephew. I’m going to teach him about smoothies and being healthy too. I can’t recommend this book enough, might even be life changing for me.

Simple for Greenhorn Juicer
Over a year ago, I watched Joe Cross' documentaries on the power of juicing. I am not overweight, but I could eat better; and green juices seem an appetizing alternative for Lenten meals. So I started searching online for recipes to try and quickly got overwhelmed. (And failed at recreating a recipe.) I didn't know where to start. So I veered away from the Internet and searched for books. After much research, I decided to invest in this one. It did not disappoint! I started following the 10-Day Jumpstart recipes and quickly saw how easy juicing can be. (And where I went wrong before.) I was also relieved that I can have tasty juices year-round. I live in a state with where produce can be limited, and I rather buy produce when they are in season locally or as close to this goal I can get. The book is easy for referencing recipes with a specific goal in mind (Energy boosting, glowing skin, and so forth.) and I recommend it for anyone exploring green juices. My two-year old also enjoys sharing these drinks with me. More critical reviews mention the "rawkstar" tone is distracting. For me, it came as the authors' voices coming through. I wasn't bothered by it because I often only read the recipes. Due to the size of the book, I do not recommended this for one-handed use. So if you are juggling kids or other things, make sure you have the book open to the right page and weight to keep it open--or the spine broken in. This book has given me the foundation I needed to start juicing. Now I can confidently use these recipes and the bookmarked recipes I have from the Internet and integrate them into my meal plans without too much effort.

Brilliant book BUT
I love this book, the pictures, descriptions, practical and sensible suggestions and smoothies with easily accessible and everyday produce. The BUT in the description refers to the constant use of the word ‘rawkstar’ . This word adds nothing to the book, becomes tedious and spoils an otherwise great publication. However everything else is brilliant so if you want smoothie ideas, don’t hesitate to buy this book.

Amazing Resource
Love this book and love the website. I discovered the website years ago when I was looking for new recipes to try. The photography is bright and appetizing. The recipes are delicious and give a lot of sugar is and additions for certain needs. I picked up the e-book on sale for $1.99 can as I am pregnant and have been off the green smoothie train. Our whole family is loving our daily green smoothies again and we plan to keep it going. It's giving me plenty of energy, especially from the load of spinach daily. Great for beginners as the 10-day smoothie challenge is full of tasty fruit and you wouldn't even know you were consuming greens. Also great for the advanced smoothie drinker liking for some delicious new recipes. I wish everyone I knew would pick this up and experience the many benefits of drinking a daily green smoothie brings.
