Great UHF antenna! - But will not receive the lower VHF-High stations!
This well-made DB8e antenna is beautiful. I love the plastic red caps that cover the ends of the bow ties. (It keeps them from getting bent out of shape.) I love how this is basically TWO antennas that can be pointed in two different directions. The assembly instructions aren't the best, but I was able to figure them out. With this antenna I received 54 channels from 56.4 miles away (in one direction). All in PERFECT condition with no dropouts or pixelation. I was impressed, and this reception was from the inside of my attic! Unfortunately, this antenna could not receive my favorite two channels 2-1 and 2-2, which I sadly learned are NOT in the UHF band, but are in the VFH-High band. This antenna (as it clearly states) is a UHF antenna. If you want to receive any VHF-High channels you will need an antenna that is designed for those frequencies. Perform an internet search for "TV signals near me", and look at the FCC site and the TVFool site. Both sites are extremely helpful, and give recommendations as to the type of antenna you need and the compass-pointing information to help you aim your antenna to receive the strongest signal. If you don't need to pick up channels 2 through 5, then this antenna will be the best antenna you ever bought! I ended up replacing this antenna with a $45 model RCA ANT751 (bought from this site), and couldn't be happier. I now receive all the channels that my location can receive. (currently 56 channels total) If you do not own a compass, there are some great compass apps for a smartphone that work great! I am very happy to finally cut out cable tv. UPDATE: Wow, how time flies! In December 2014, I initially installed this antenna in my attic. I was saddened that this UHF antenna could not pick up channels 2 through 5, (which are in the VHF-Hi frequency band), and I instead installed another antenna RCA ANT751. The RCA ANT751 worked great for me and I stored this beautiful 8 Element Bowtie Antenna in the attic. Two years ago I needed an additional antenna to point in a different direction to pick up an educational channel. I only used one-half of this 8 element bowtie antenna to capture the signal from the new transmitting station about 45 miles away. I used the ANTENNA SIGNAL COMBINER that is supplied with this 8 element antenna to combine the received signal from both antennas to my amplified signal splitter in my attic. Two great advantages of mounting these antennas in your attic is you can support these lightweight antennas from your rafters with string, and the antennas and connections do not corode nearly as fast as they would outside in the elements. When installed in your attic, you never need to be worried about your antennas during hurricanes and high-wind storms. After nearly four years in my attic, this anntena still looks and works as good as new!

Quality, but HUGE. Plan accordingly when buying a mast/mount/location
This antenna is HUGE, but very well built. It has the capability of picking up towers from 2 different directions, it goes into a combiner, and out on 1 coaxial RG6 cable. I ran that into a Channel Master amp (antenna in, 4 tv out). I did a channel scan, pulled in 85 channels. After eliminating the channels in other languages, and HSN like stations, I still got 70 channels that never pixelate of freeze up. I originally bought a motorized antenna over 10 years ago, but it was a pain to turn, took one person outside to watch the antenna and another inside to press the turn button. With this one, I installed it, used the RCA Signal app to lock in the perfect signal based on my location for the towers north and south, and locked them down. Very happy with it. Its works perfectly with my HD Homerun as well.

Works well. Save yourself some money!
First off, I live in a tough reception area. I'm only about 30 miles from the transmitters, (Nautical miles) which doesn't sound too far, but when you consider I live in Massachusetts where the transmitters are located AT SEA LEVEL, you begin to understand why reception around here is so difficult. To complicate things, my house is at the bottom of the Blackstone River Valley, so the signal tends to go right over our heads, and many antennas have a difficult time picking it up. Not this one. I mounted it to the gable end of my 2 story house using a 30" J pole and 6 - 1/4" x 2" wood lags. I get 50 channels, some are duplicates, because I'm close enough to Rhode Island that I pick up the Providence feeds. In fact, most of the Providence stations come in better than the Boston channels. But I really wanted the Boston channels and this antenna does the job. I gave it 4 stars, because it does seem to be a little bit sensitive to how you aim it. Very small adjustments seem to make a real difference in reception. I installed this antenna in early October, 2016 when there were still leaves on the trees. I was impressed, but wanted it to go through one of our winters before writing this review. We didn't have the roughest winter as far as snow fall, but it was unusually windy. We've probably had at least 15-20 days of high (30 mph to 50 mph) winds since I put it up, and it has held up well. There was one time on a windy day that I think the wind blew it slightly out of position, because I lost a few channels. It stayed that way for a couple of weeks, and then wind from a different direction blew it back! That tells me that this spring, I will need to go back up on the roof to fine tune how it is aimed, and to tighten down the hardware. It uses wing nuts, and I didn't want to over tighten them, and break something, so that's on me. Perhaps there was some shrinkage due to the cold? I installed a pre-amp to the antenna mast, because I have a long (85') co-ax run. I tried 3 different pre-amps, and there really wasn't much difference from brand to brand, but I definitely recommend using one. I also used an amplified splitter in the basement, to distribute the signal to the living room, and all 3 bedrooms. I don't have a TV in all the bedrooms, so I used metal caps on the co-ax connectors to prevent signal loss. This year I'm planning on installing the Channel Master Join-Tenna device, and a 2nd antenna to try and capture even more channels. There are a few more out there that I think I can get, but they're in a different direction. Overall this was a solid purchase. I'm saving $96.00 per month over satellite TV. Between this antenna, and my Roku with Netflix, I have more than enough content to watch. And as an added bonus, I get to watch the Patriots games in HD! for free!

A Complicated Solution
This a very good antenna, with a quality build suitable for most situations, and multi-angular reception that brings in plenty of stations. I really like the antenna, but it didn't solve all of the problems I had anticipated. ....My primary channel of interest is 70 miles away, and even with critical aiming, the DB-8 isn't able to consistently hold that signal. .....I have since found out that this antenna is definitely not the best solution for difficult long distant reception. .....I am now trying another option I found described by some Canadian installers. ....I am going to stack two DB8e antennas on top of each other and see if I can bring in the weak signals that are eluding me. ....The installation requires paying very close attention to cable lengths of both antenna feed cables. .....Don't let others fool you into thinking the DB-8 is the most powerful antenna out there. ....It is likely one of the most powerful multi-directional antennas on the market, but if you have a station with questionable reception, the 91- series yagi style antennas outperform it by a considerable margin. .....But,,,, you must deal with the fact that the 91 series yagis are highly directional and must either be critically aimed or mounted on a rotor. If the stacking technique is not successful, I will pull the DB8e stack down the pole and place a HDB91X at the top of the antenna pole, critically aimed and fed by its own coax and preamp to an A-B switch on the back of my primary TV. Update 1/12/2016 - I have been tediously dealing with each factor in the transition to see where the biggest difference lies. ....Stacking the two antennas to form a 16 bay antenna has definitely improved signal strength. ...As I have replaced successive sections of cable with very high quality cable, it has also become obvious to me that much of my problem is associated with dissimilar cable connections that cause a form of ghosting that results in increase attenuation. .....When I get the cable all done, I will post another update and attempt to cover as many of the finer details in optimizing this installation. 1/19/2016 - I have gone through all of the steps to meticulously sort the myriad problems associated with long range reception in this installation. There are a couple of things everyone should know. ....ALWAYS start with new, first rate cable in your installation. Old antenna cable can have many unique problems that effect your antenna reception. I found the last cable replacement I made to make a considerable difference. .....And lastly, this isn't the best long range antenna sold. .....That title still goes to the yagi style antennas that are very directional, but this is a very good compromise. ...If I was starting over again from scratch, I would go with stacked yagi antennas critically aimed at my target stations, for the best long range reception available.

I did the research, cut the cable, and it was worth putting up the extra money for all the right stuff.
First off. After significant research (As I suggest you do.) I decided to cut the cable and I have been pretty happy. Before you purchase, you must be aware of what is around you. SPECIAL NOTE: I got the antennas and not a rotating antenna because there are 4 tv's in the house and I was not about to fight with my wife and the three kids over what direction the antenna was going to point. So I got stationary antennas and pointed at all the transmission towers. Problem solved. This may work for you or may not. 1) Your geographical location because Antennas work off line of sight. So if your next to a mountain or a bunch of trees and buildings blocking, your success is not going to be as advertised. 2) Be clear of power lines. As in if there is one within 200' of the antenna and if you have to point at the the power lines, your reception will not be as advertised. 3) Check the distance from the Transmission tower to you and review obstructions that are in between. I used Antennas direct map on their website. Very helpful and very nice website. Once everything looked good. This is what I purchased. I decided to go all in and do it right the first time. Within 3 months after cutting the cable, the parts where paid for. 1x 8 Element Bowtie Indoor/Outdoor HDTV Antenna 1x Clearview 2 Antenna 1x Splitter to reverse 1x Channel Master CM3414 4-Port Distribution Amplifier 1x Mast (Then had to replace it because it bent over in a wind storm and I replaced with 1" pipe. I believe the Chimney will come down first before the mast bends again.) So note, get 1" pipe to save yourself from having to go back up. The DB8e out of the box was well built (Even after it blew over and slapped the roof pretty hard it held it's own). Instructions were clear and I was able to have it put together in about 30min (I take my time). The DB8e performed as advertised. I am in an elevated area in the country with no obstructions. The Antenna by itself got me roughly 50 channels. The furthest Transmission tower from me was 82mi. I got roughly 70% reception. So I was happy and knowing once I added the amplifier, I wouldn't be disappointed. After adding the Clearview 2 and the Amplifier. I was more than satisfied. The 82mi tower I was getting 98% and I got all the channels from all the towers around Ellicot City, Md. I also got all the channels from all the towers in Philadelphia, Pa (40mi. away). I also got all the channels from all the towers in York, Pa. (50mi.). The end result was 81 channels. I'm happy with that, happy with the research I did, happy with the results.

Do not waste the money on this antenna.
I do not normally provide reviews for products however this one I felt I had to. Review may be a little lengthy however I feel a little background is important. Read the entire review, this antenna did not work for my and I included details of the one that did work near the end of this review. We had been using a cheap basic indoor antenna for many years to receive local stations, our home was situated relatively close to many of the broadcast towers and we had no issues receiving around 15-20 stations. When we decided to move, we moved to a more rural setting, further from the broadcast towers and our cheap indoor antenna only received the really strong signals which equated to us no receiving around 2-3 stations. Time to look for something stronger. After doing some research and reading many reviews I determined our best bet was to purchase an outdoor antenna. I was not excited about an outdoor antenna, as I always saw them as an eye sore but free TV is better than a $250 cable bill. Based on feature and reviews, this antenna seemed like it would meet all of our needs and the range of 70 miles was more than enough to reach the the furthest tower from us which was around 60 miles away. The price seemed a little high however if it does the job, the one time investment was still far more cost effective than cable, so I ordered it. The antenna arrived as it should, assembly was easy, I didn't have any issues with missing parts or defective components (this was all good). The terrain in our area is relatively flat with no major trees obstructing the signal to the antenna. While installing I was getting pretty excited thinking, "this is going to be great, living further out with more privacy and still getting free TV". To make sure I got the very best signal possible this antenna was mounted on a 15' pole off the peak of my roof. Again, thinking "With the height and this antenna, I'm going to get tons of stations". Drilled holes, neatly anchored the coax line in a straight run through the attic, down the wall and into the house. This antenna even came with an amplifier, so now I'm thinking "man, I'm going to get stations from the next state over". Turned the antenna toward the majority of the towers. Time to reap the rewards of my research and labor intense install! Turned on the TV did a signal scan and.... Received 3 stations... Ok, no big deal, I'll just adjust the antenna, back on the roof we go and move the antenna, do another scan, 2 stations. Hmm, I must not be pointing it in the correct direction, did some more research, downloaded a tower scanning app on my phone with an app and redirected the tower. Back inside, another scan, 3 stations. After 3 weeks of adjusting, reorienting, checking coax connections, confirming power to amplifier, etc., I was at a loss. The best I could do was get about 5 stations on a clear, 0 mph wind day at 5:02pm on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. I chocked it up to my location and being too far from the towers to provide a strong enough signal. On Sept. 22nd 2021, I will have owned this antenna for almost a year with no improvement. Last week my wife and I were at Target, while walking through the electronics section I saw a $50 indoor antenna with a 50 mile range. She's been on my for months now to get "that ugly thing off our roof, it doesn't work anyway". Unfortunately I couldn't disagree with her, and what could it hurt, it would probably get our local weather channel and that was all we really needed so we purchased it. The next day I was up on the roof to remove the outdoor antenna. The new one we purchased was an indoor / outdoor, however I did not want to install it outdoors. I proceeded to pull the coax back into the garage and install the new Target antenna up in the trusses, assuming that this would cut down on the signal I received I didn't care I just wanted to be done with it. I removed the amplifier from the old antenna, screwed the coax into the back of the TV and did a scan. 15 stations on the first scan, I was ecstatic, used the app I previously downloaded, adjusted the position of the Target antenna, rescanned, got 32 stations!!! My long winded review is complete. Maybe I received a defective antenna but regardless, a $50 Target antenna mounted indoors was much better than a $170 lightning rod on the top of my home. If interested the "Target Antenna" was a Philips Elite HD Wing Antenna. Model #SDV8412B/27. Do your own research, and good luck with whatever you guys buy.

Returned Db8e for Marathon whole house antenna, I regret nothing.
Purchased and mounted in the attic of a 2-story home. I realized that this would degrade the signal somewhat, but we live in hurricane country on the gulf coast and so mounting such a large array on the roof did not hold much appeal to us. Did some research and found that others had mounted their Db8e in an attic and found success, so we pulled the trigger and ordered it. The unit came disassembled but went together easily in about 20 minutes. Bought a mast at the big blue box hardware store and connected it to the TV. We did receive channels, but not as many as the report from tvfool led us to believe (only 12 vs. 28 theoretically possible). Called customer service (which was courteous and helpful) and was given a slightly different azimuth which resulted in no improvement. Fiddled with different locations and headings for the better part of a weekend, and stopped once I figured things were as good as they were going to get. The following Monday reception had inexplicably degraded, down to just a few channels. Spent another few hours in the attic trying different spots and directions. Only marginal improvement to show for my efforts. I was underwhelmed to be honest... this was supposedly the most powerful antenna made by Antennas Direct and it seemed twitchy and mediocre. What to do? Go back to Amazon and read more reviews, of course. This time I stumbled upon the Marathon antenna from freesignaltv. Looked promising... expensive, but promising. I ordered it before even returning the Db8e so we wouldn't have to go without reception. When the Marathon came in I immediately took it up to the attic, removed the cable from the Db8e and hooked it up. It was much easier to handle and maneuver than the large Db8e array in the awkward/cramped attic, not to mention the fact that assembly literally consisted of screwing on 2 VHF rods. You can put this thing together in under a minute, no exaggeration. Plugged in the power, tightened the included bracket to the mast, and ran downstairs to scan for channels. The verdict: 21 channels in rock-solid HD, vs. 12 (on a good day when the planets align just so, etc.) for the Db8e. Your mileage may vary of course, but for this customer the Marathon's performance stood head and shoulders above the Db8e. Here's my anecdotal evidence, for what it's worth: consider that the Marathon is a directional antenna (like the Db8e), that is, you're supposed to point it toward the tower from which you want to receive a signal. Right off the bat, the Marathon was pulling in clear signals from towers that were 90 degrees off axis from the direction I had pointed it . AND these towers were 65 to 75 miles distant. Needless to say, that erased any second thoughts I might've had regarding my return of the Db8e. Again their customer service is excellent but the product itself, at least in my experience, was lacking and did not live up to the hype. The Marathon whole house antenna on the other hand performed as advertised and then some, actually exceeding my expectations. Bottom line: if you're willing to shell out $130 for the Db8e, do yourself a favor and spend just a little bit more for the Marathon unit. Now that I've (hopefully) made your decision a little easier, there are two things to be aware of with the Marathon antenna: 1.) It is a powered unit. It has an inline amplifier included that requires a power source. In my case I was fortunate to have an outlet in the attic that was available to plug in the amplifier. 2.) Related to the first item, you will need to obtain an additional length of coax cable and a coupling to run from the back of the antenna to amplifier. Why this is not included considering the already steep price is a fair question, in my opinion. Some folks may already have these parts lying around but for me it meant driving to Wally World to get parts that I feel really ought to have been included in the first place. Neither one of these issues are real dealbreakers, however, when you consider the performance that you will get out if the Marathon unit.

Very good antenna
Easy to assemble and to install. Martin from Antennas Direct advised me to buy this type of antenna, and he was right. With a compass and the coordinates from TVfool.com, and finding the best spot on my roof, I installed the antenna with no problem. I recommend with no hesitation Antennas Direct for everybody needing an antenna. Don't forget, the antenna that is needed, is not necessarily the same for every house. Antennas Direct was an incredible help. Before, I was receiving 8 channels, now I'm receiving 13, sometime 14. There are two towers in my region and each of the two sections of the antenna is directing to one different tower. I can't get more channel because that's all there is where I live. Those who are not happy with this antenna, don't blame blindly the antenna. There are different reason why it might not work for you, take time to read how it works. Topography of your region, trees; density, size, and height of buildings between you and the towers can affect, etc. The position on your roof can affect too. This antenna is very good.

Works as expecged
I am in Laval, QC. Installed the antenna in attic of 2 storey house with split heading to 110 and 200 deg and got 33 local and US channels. Works excellent in normal weather conditions. Do not know yet how it performs during snow/rain.

Fantastic antenna
This antenna allows for 2 separate 4 bays to aim at 2 transmitter locations or all 8 bays aimed at one group if i only had one location to aim at i would probably use a single long range antenna but this works for me because i have multiple locations to aim at and receive signals from across lake ontario ...i use a compass and regularly pull in 40 channels. It would be nice to have 4 separate 2 bays to aim .. i have an inline booster i havnt even tried yet so if you have a clear path with 1-2 locations to aim at this antenna is very good !!!!!!
