Savage Spear of the Unicorn: Stories by Delicious Tacos

Overall, this book was an interesting read from start to finish. The stories in it give a really deeply intimate view into the authors life and thoughts. Given this, the book can be pretty depraved at times. There was a small handful of stories that made me sick, and sort of shocked me out of the experience and made me question why I was reading this. There’s a lot of raw unfiltered thoughts and feelings revolving around sensitive topics of sex, so be warned for sure. Other than that, I enjoyed a lot of the other stories. The god of the mockingbirds and the women’s march are personal highlights, written with really thoughtful prose and metaphors that seem to be natural for him. This alone made it hard to put the book down, everything (even the darker things) are so captivatingly written that you can’t imagine reading the same sentence the same way anywhere else. To sum it up, this book isn’t for everyone. It’s got some great human moments and excellent writing if you can stomach some of the darker stuff.

These stories function more as prose poems, eschewing traditional grammar and punctuation to go straight to your core. In the same way Hemingway made the florid prose of the Victorian era obsolete overnight, I wonder if DT's stripped down, confessional style of writing isn't the perfect fit our ADD age, when people can barely get through 280 characters before clicking away for a new dopamine bump. If the publishing industry had any guts left, DT would be writing scathing social commentary for Rolling Stone the way Hunter Thompson did in the 1970s. Not much chance that will happen. Our ivy-league overlords would never allow such a crass, brutally honest description of the life of a working-class drone get through the content filters. So buy the books and share them with friends, while you still can.

Look as you all know in this economy you gotta pay to play and I told Delicious Tacos as much. I said you want my 88 followers to know what I thought of your book you gotta send me free product, that is just what I do for all my sponsored clients and it's just good business to be consistent. But the guy stone walled me and refused to send anything. I cursed him so hard at first, I prayed for his book to be a complete failure and for him to go back to being a hollywood assistant secretary with ED. But I eventually bought the book anyway just to have a laugh at what a self important jerk would write. Well as you can see I am now writing the review for free because the book was such a fun trip down memory lane for an avid Delicious Tacos blog reading fan like myself. I was reminded of some of the older post/stories that I forgot about like "The Penny" which speaks uniquely to the mind's endless ability to find even small ways to torture itself with anxiety. And I was once again reminded of the superb line in Her Pulsating Pussy "Ling Ma balls". Anyway now I can't wait for the next book and hope a bunch of sexy women try to sleep with him for being a great author.

Or should it be finger in the pussy of the times? People are always writing books, but only some of them reflect the times in which they were written. Savage Spear of the Unicorn is a nice little read, a great collection of stories of varying length that reflect living as a young man in these times in the modern hellscape known as LA. Yeah, maybe Californication did it first, but this is a genuine product-- not some plastic manufacted piece of realia from the Showtime series. ("written" by David Duchovny Star of the show, available where ever books and DVDs are sold) The prose is staccato and varied, and the references to culture can sometimes be deep but are always pretty funny. I never thought in a million years that I would ever see a mention of Honored Matres and Bene Gesserit in a book outside of Frank Herbert or his untalented hack son! Underlying the prose is this uncomfortable anxiety that permeates everything. It really feels like the despair we live with day to day in this world. It is a real shame people lump him in with the likes of doofus pick up artistry; Delicious Tacos really isn't one of them. He does share that same undercurrent of desperate anxiety, but this is the current state of relationships in 2015 onward, what with the tinder, okcupid, and other transactional methods of snaring a mate. I lived a much tamer version of Delicious Tacos' escapades, and it mirrored almost every okcupid/tinder/plenty of fish encounter. I suspect this is the same for a lot of men of my generation as well. I chuckled more than once, and I enjoyed reading it. It is a perfect pick up and go book, and it is deceptively deeper than you'd expect from a book of short stories.

Refreshing and enriching. Throughly satisfying and just enough to perk you back up from an exhaustive day. One of the best books written in the past 5 years.

There is no way to describe this book except to say, this thing looks GOOD on your shelf. It has a way of revealing to your friends, just how good your taste is. Also, it's hilarious but that's not important. What's more important is bringing modern counter-culture to the forefront and to make it cool. saving all other reasons, buy this book for the cover art. I did.

Punchy witty prose. Fun and playful in a way that adds depth to the array of complex emotions/topics he explores. Punctuated by moments of poetic brilliance. Everything just falls into place effortlessly making this an extremely easy read. Not all the stories were my flavor, but the highs are so magnificent they deserve to be read over and over again. Delicious Tacos is THE writer of the 21st century. What does this collection have? There's pain, there is beauty, and there is the mundane intrusive thoughts of every day life that most man dare not admit to. DT bares it all for us. And for that I am grateful. I dont do reviews but DT's writing inspires me to do so.

Read it in two days. Didn't get bored. That means five stars. Tacos expresses how I feel about stuff. Except asian p***y, which is not my thing. Anyway, read it. Tell your friends about it.

If you're into depths of human honesty/depravity, Tacos is for you. Very talented, very concise, written from the heart and the balls.

Beautifully expressed apathetic nihilism, packaged in a turquoise jacket. This man will go down as a classic author beside James Joyce and Nabokov.

So much negativity the book has..! An unending stream of it. I made it halfway through and it seemed to me like the lead characters are all those who have given up in life. Gives me a great insight into how losers think, and I'm thankful for that. Rated it 4 stars because the writing is actually good. But I'd like to add - If someone healthy and educated stops trying to better their lot and just gives up, how are they different from a corpse?
