Definitely not 8x magnification. In my opinion closer to 3x magnification compared to my Carson magnifiers. I have also seen same identical ones sell for cheaper than what I paid. grrrrr. Feels plastic rather than glass. Outer cover is vinyl with felt on inside. Black plastic rim surrounds/holds the lens in place. Easy enough to slide in and out of cover. Gave it 4 stars because I wanted a portable pocket magnifier I can carry around with some protection and decent magnification and this fits the bill. Lens diameter is about 2-1/8 to almost 2-1/4 inch from outer edge to outer edge. There is hardly any aberration through the lens, just raise/lower it from the object to focus. If you want a wider view, then bring your eyeball closer to the lens and you can see much more than what's being magnified in the limited 2-1/8 inch lens area.

I don't know how long this will last but they work fine I print the newspaper and really helps to line up the color Ads 2 for this price is great The magnifying Is what I Expected
