Impressionist Cats

This is probably my favorite of the Susan Herbert art books featuring cats, not because I'm so fond of Impressionist art, but because the cats depicted in this collection are drawn unusually well, with exceptional detail and with such sensitivity. A couple of the pictures are surprisingly poignant. The book itself is also larger than the others issued in this series, and I think the larger size really adds to the impact of the drawings.

I received this book as a Christmas present. (It turns out that this is NOT the only style of art that this woman has reproduced via cats.) I always thought cat ladies were weird with their cat clothing, cat jewelry, cat paper towels.... until I adopted a cat (my family was a dog family but dogs are really too labor intensive for a "dynamic" real life 21st C. existence.) Anyway, cats are great (despite what the rest of my family says.) If you are feline- inclined, check out Susan Herbert's other cat history paintings and also you might try the books 'French for Cats' and 'Why Cats Paint.'

We first found Susan herbert's books in the Musee d'Orsay this summer! Absolutely enchanting! We had to get more and we were notdisappointed. The expressions on the cats faces are priceless..any cat lover would enjoy these books!

My daughter has spent countless hours loosing herself in the pages of this book. She loves it so much we had to buy a second to use as art for her walls!

No domesticated animals lend themselves so perfectly to anthropomorphic portrayals as cats; any cat lover will tell you of the range of facial expressions which cats will display. Whilst the raw material for such depictions is plentiful, the ability to capture perfectly on paper what is unmistakably a cat yet at the same time making it believable as a Shakespearean character, an operatic performer or an artist's human model belongs, thus far, uniquely to Susan Herbert. This is a review of "Impressionist Cats", one of the artist's books which is in the third category. It is a book full of images which capture the imagination and remind one (as if one needs reminding) what it is about cats which makes them so special and so life-enriching.

......especially if you’re fond of cats. We did the Impressionist artists for Art History so we all had a good laugh at these. Susan Herbert was really clever and observant. Talented lady with good sense of humour. Have also bought her Pre-Raphaelite version which is equally entertaining.

I first came across Susan Herbert books by accident, it was in the free pile at a local car boot sale! However she has the greattalent of turning some of the worlds most famous paintings into true art of a very different kind, just imagine the original paintingsreplaced by cats, made me smile anyway, in a world where we are under daily stress and pressure this book will make you smile again! perhaps even take a step back to realise we all need a bit of humour and comedy to refocus at times, no doubt will be getting more of her books in future but if you are a cat person or like art with a sense of humour this book is for you!
