Light, supportive, with traditional leather upper
I wanted to replace a pair of hiking boots that I’ve had for decades, and after looking long and hard, these fit the bill. I was looking for the comfort of warm hiking boots and the versatility of work boots. They’re my hunting boots when it isn’t so cold that I need my lined hunting boots, my hiking boots when my light weight summer boots won’t do, and my cold weather boots for working around the yard and garden. It’s amazing how supportive they can be when they’re so light weight. They look and feel like they’ll last. I have narrow, size 12 feet & they lace up tight enough to hold my feet securely.

My Third Pair
These are the best boots for heavy duty hiking I have ever bought. They are light, waterproof and good to go the day I put them on. They cannot be resoled though so after I ruin them, I get another pair. They last me about 5 years but could probably last a lot longer if I didnt wear them while using toxic paint thinners and caustic sodas. HOWEVER, they fit great, feel good and fit "like a glove" as the man says.

Great boots!
I love these boots. Plenty of room for my feet and true to size. Have used them on four outings and they are very comfortable.

Qualitywitha capital Q
I first discovered Lowa Renegade boots in 2006 working as a Wilderness Ranger with the Forest Service. I have found them to have the best traction when hiking or climbing on granite. They are dry and warm, working in the rain and snow. They were quick to break in and easy to care for. They provide great support for your feet and ankles. I hike in some extreme back county wilderness terrain and can not afford a broken boot. The soles wear well, and I often get two seasons out of a pair. These are my go-to boots, and Lowa has been so since 2006. It is now August 2024 and yesterday I received my new boots for the next season..

This is my 6th pair. I love them because they cured and prevent my plantar faciitis. But they're not waterproof.
I have worn Lowa Men's Renegade GTXs (with Sole® Softec Casual Insoles) all day every day since about 2006.I wear them because they are one of the two things that cured my plantar faciitis. (The other cure being bare feet on a tray of ice cubes for 15 to 20 minutes which I only use to eliminate acute pain. And this ice treatment has only been needed when I've abused my feet by walking barefoot on hard surfaces because the Lowas completely eliminate my plantar faciitis pain.)So, obviously, I think very highly of these boots. And when they become too tattered for "business casual," I get a new pair and relegate the old pair to work boots and relegate my work boots to garden boots. So I always have three pairs of my Lowas on hand. And the business casual pair generally last 12 to 14 months of every day use.For those of you who also suffer from plantar faciitis:The sandals that I wear are the Chaco Z1 Vibrams. They're as supportive as the Lowas. I'm even able to run trails in them. The sandals I wear in the shower (I can't stand on hard surfaces anymore) are the Chaco Hipthong 2 Ecotreads which are also as supportive as the Lowas. And, my running shoes, they're New Balance MT1110s with the Sole Softec Ultra Insoles. Finally, since I can never walk barefoot on a hard surface again due to my plantar faciitis, the slippers I've worn in the house, also every day since about 2006, are Finn Comfort Men's Clogs.Notes:Although each of the pieces of footwear I've mentioned here seem to be quite expensive, they last so long and continuously perform so well that I view them as a bargain. For example, I've put over 200 miles on the MT1100s and only replaced them because the fabric was beginning to tear, not because they weren't supporting me properly anymore. And the Finn Comfort Clogs, my house slippers, if I'm in the house, I'm wearing them and I'm still on my first pair since 2006.Also, when I say I've *cured* my plantar faciitis with the above footwear what I mean is that I have no pain unless I do something known to cause pain like stand on a hard floor and cured also means that I've run 5K's, done a Sprint Triathlon as well as pedaled the entire 200K Horribly Hilly Hundreds bicycle event. To conclude, however, although Lowa claims that the Renegades are waterproof, I know that that's just a silly marketeer's dream/wish which has never been true of any of the 6 pairs I've owned. My proof involves standing in the water at the bottom of the driveway while busting up and removing the accumulated ice after a snowstorm. But if you want to test this, just take four steps through a puddle that's deep enough to reach the point that's just below the Lowa's laces. And then, of course, wring out your socks. ;-)Good luck!Sincerely,Scott WingerVerona, WI

Best Boots in This Class
I needed a pair of medium-duty hikers for day trips in the Rockies. I bought the Lowa Renegade GTX based on reviews for its comfort and quick break-in. I wore them a bit while walking the dog and found them to feel ready after just a few miles. They roll with my stride and are very easy on the feet. I just got back from a 6-day hiking trip in the San Juan Mountains of SW Colorado and I can say without hesitation that these are the most comfortable boots I've owned. We climbed many mountain passes and crossed a few streams. My feet were never wet. On uneven, rocky ground I would have liked more support, but my backpacking boots tear my feet up when I use them for light-duty so I can live with tired feet. This was some intense hiking, often 6-8 miles per hike with elevation gains of 2-3000' so it was a great torture test. I was the only one in our party of 6 with no blisters at the end of the week. I will mention that the sizes run SMALL. I usually wear a men's 10 regular and I had to go to a 10.5 wide. I tried a few pairs on at a local store. I also tried Garmont and Salomon for comparison, but I chose the Lowa for overall comfort and a smooth stride when walking. For northern use (ie Canada or Alaska) where you want wiggle room for multiple pairs of socks, I would have gone to a 11 wide. We'll see how long they last. I'm happy to get 5 years out of a pair of hikers cuz I run them hard. The Lowa are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. There's nothing worse than a cheap pair of boots on a long hike.
