Old reliable
This is the second replacement I've ordered. With the extreme heat it will eventually sag in the middle and eventually break. This is natural and expected. They DO last a long time. I think if the manufacturer would add a third set of legs in the middle they would last WAY longer.

Are using this on top of our woodstove rather than in a fireplace
We bought this to put on top of our new woodstove because it gets so hot we can't but anything on top of it without burning it. This grate provides just enough separation to allow keeping a coffee cup warm on it, or maybe putting socks on it to dry. I realize this is not what it is designed for, but it has worked great in this application. Solid cast iron is sturdy, so I think it would work fine in a fireplace too, although it is too small for a large piece of wood.

Fitss
Fit perfectly in my us wood stove and helps it burn the wood more completely.

Exscellent, but starting to bow in the middle.
I bought this grate because I had a hard time starting fires in our small-ish high efficiency fireplace. I was looking for something as small and especially as low as possible. This grate fit the bill. It is pretty heavy but also very compact and low. I can fit some rolled up cardboard under it to help start the fire and the extra air circulation from below really helps getting a fire going in no time. I'm very happy with it, and it has made a huge difference in getting fires going.I have now had it for something like 1.5 winter seasons. We use it nearly every day from November until February/March. Just recently I noticed that it started bowing a little bit in the center. (See pictures). I'm not sure if the manufacturer reads this, but if so, I think a little foot on each side in the center would fix this problem. I never really clean this grate. It gets warm in the morning when we start the fire and slowly cools down at night when we let the fire go out.So, as a summary, yeah, this is great, but I do wish it was made of slightly better material (or at least had center feet) so that it wouldn't start bowing in the center. I have a feeling that in a year or so it will probably be touching the bottom. Unfortunately this seems to be the only grate of this size, so I would probably buy it again. I will try to report back if there are any changes.

terrible and defective
I am using this grate in a fireplace insert, which without any grate does not get enough air and makes more charcoal than ashes. The US Stove grate completely solved this problem, but cast iron material has sagged and swelled after four days' use. Other reviewers reported that it eventually breaks. I had not read the other reviews carefully enough to realize how quickly this failure takes place. I will be returning this to A m a z o n for a full refund - I urge anyone else who has bought one of these recently and had the same problem to do the same. I am astounded that a company apparently keeps making and selling these defective grates, and that A m a z o n goes along with it.Update - I have not been able to find another grate the same size, and flat, so I am going to keep this one. The ONLY way to have it actually work is to support the middle of the grate so it doesn't sag and break. I'm doing this with a small fire brick. Mine is 1-1/4 inches thick, but a thickness of 1-1/2 inch would be about right if you start using it right away, before the grate has started to sag.

Sorry I can't find any better.
Good price compared to all the others selling the same thing. I use it in my wood stove where it starts sagging in middle then falls apart after only one winter. So I have to get a new one ever year. Can't find any better ones so was stuck until I made my own.

Perfect match for the small tent stove
If you get one of those small tent wood burning stoves this will greatly improve the air circulation and is basically a necessity. Get this one it’s very good quality. Very heavy.

Good as a replacement ash grate
Makes an adequate replacement ash grate for my Jotul stove which is no longer available. It was easy to trim to shape using an angle grinder equipped with a basic cutoff wheel. The grate itself is thin and I have no doubt that it would promptly buckle if used as intended with the supplied standoffs but in my case, it is supported all the way around the perimeter. I have been alternating sides after each use to minimize any possible warping and it has been working so far.

solid, low profile
This little grate works as described. Very low profile and solid build.

Very poor quality
My grate, as did many in other reviews, buckled in the middle. Logs roll off and can’t stay on because this grate “melted” by the fourth fire. Buyer beware.
