The Toast of New York

First off, and this is big, there are no
closed captions!! Unthinkable in this day and age, especially considering the age of most people who would be interested in this movie! As for the movie itself, I found it kind of boring. Not terrible, just not Cary Grant great!! RP

Poor Quality
The black and white film was old and did not lend itself well to the transfer to DVD format.

A toast for the toast
I'd never seen the end of this film before. A small history lesson about the financial world. Grant was as usual enjoyable, and Frances Farmer was enchanting as well Fast service on this quality dvd.

Five Stars
Excellent portrayal of Fisk's attempt to corner the gold market. The Erie Railroad deal also.

A dumb CG movie
I really enjoy a good Cary Grant flick. Just not this one. It’s a real stinker.

I bought this DVD because I am a great admirer of Frances Farmer
I bought this DVD because I am a great admirer of Frances Farmer, a highly and intelligent actress whose ambitious and ruthless mother dominated her life to a point of destruction. Worthwhile reading her biography. I had another film which somebody pinched from my collection, "The farmer's wife" which was very good. I recorded it from the TV. Unfortunately it is not for sale. This is a very light comedy, with Cary Grant looking gorgeous but his usual self, and Edward Arnold. Frances Farmer has a good part but the film is really not up to her standards. Still, it's worth seeing.
