This switch had a bit more on it than I really needed. I didn't need the LED indicator and didn't need the Tamper Resistant plug. They were bonuses for the price I guess. The Tamper Resistant plug is sometimes a little difficult to plug into depending on how sturdy the plug is that you are using. Maybe it will loosen after use. The switch, however is extremely high quality! It is the best feeling switch I have ever used. Has such a great solid feel seems like it will last forever. One downside is the additional size of the unit compared to a single pole light switch which I switched out for this unit. The wiring box got a bit crowded once I undid the neutral wire which has to connect to this unit. I was able to get it all to work, though and really appreciate having an outlet where previously only a light switch was.

I love how easy it is to side wire these switches with the plate, you just slide your wires under and tighten the screw. The Eaton which I installed a red bypass lead to is identical to one of my older Cooper branded white 291W switch (top in photo) which has 20 amps printed on it. The Eaton 15 amp rated receptacle has the same triple wipe system found in older 20 amp Cooper 291w receptacle and the 20 amp Leviton 5335. Plenty of copper to dissipate heat. I'm using this to turn on a 1 hp well pump motor which its really not designed to do. Most well pump switches use 4 heavy duty points like the square D switch exclusively. I was able to abuse a Leviton 5335 for 5 years turning on the well pump and these should last that long before the points burn out. I'm sure for purely resistive loads of less than15 amps they would last forever.

There was no wiring diagram included with the switch/receptacle, so it took me a little while to properly wire it. I wanted the switch to control the receptacle, so hooked the hot (black) wire to the brass screw, which I thought would have been the correct way. The receptacle was switched, but the indicator light remained on regardless of the position of the switch. So, I broke off the jumper between the 2 black screws, hooked the hot wire to the upper black screw and installed a jumper wire between the brass screw and the lower black screw and then it worked properly (the light went on and off, depending on the switch's position). If a schematic had been enclosed with the switch, it would have been quicker to install.

This is a good product. I think the reason there is some confusion on installation is because there are no directions. Download the directions here in order understand. If you want the light to come on and switch to be hot at the same time, it requires breaking a tab on the switch installing a jumper wire no big deal but something to know. Once that’s done it works great.

I was hoping, via following directions, that the plug would be independent of the switch. Alas, it is not. But the application that I used it for makes it fine. (In kitchen, controls exhaust fan right above area installed for kitchen electrics that emit odors, such as a deep fryer and electric grill, so turning the fan off is added safety to prevent leaving these things on.) The product itself is of great quality, switch is solid, and not flimsy.

this is THE switch to buy if you need an extra outlet on your counter. My garbage disposal switch was just sitting there taking up space 99.9% of the time, so I replaced it with this bad boy. Now, not only do I have a beefy switch that also shines a red light when on (perfect for anyone hearing impaired) I also have a usable outlet. My only issue was the lack of wiring instructions, and is the only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5. I was able to figure it out with a little trial and error and help from the web.

I have this on the outside of a closet. No more closet light left on. The indicator shows me when light is on!!
