NEUMI BS5 Passive Bookshelf Speakers, 5-Inch Woofer, Dark Wood, 1 Pair

These just need to be placed in the right area because I bought them a year or two ago for a specific room and didn't like them. I bought them again for a different room and they sound amazing. Great speaker it rivals my klipsch for clarity not base but I don't use those for base anyways I have a subwoofer. For the price I don't think you can get anything better.

SUMMARY: Unbelievable sound from a small cheap box. Five stars not because they compete evenly with more expensive speakers, but because for $100 this is an outstanding speaker IMO. ========================================== I come from a long line of audio starting in the 60's. I've owned plenty of hi-fi equipment and speakers. Lots have come and gone, many with regrets. Now in my old age, I decided to have one last fling. At least, as much as I could given my sharp budget limitations. Therefore over the last several months, I've had several really nice (and some expensive) speakers thru my house. ELAC, KEF, Sony, Klipsch ... you name it. I even rebuilt my old AR-2ax's. Now the NEUMI speakers I bought as a lark after hearing someone rave about them. The description sounded like they'd be something right up my alley. (By the way, I'm a stereo guy, not home theater.) These didn't disappoint. Here's is what I learned. 1. They are a very enjoyable, easy to listen to speaker. 2. Slightly rolled off on the very high end, which to my taste is very nice (I liked the ELAC Debut Reference as a top contender for example.) 3. They are warm sounding, which can give male singer a slightly chesty sound, but not too bad. No worse than the ELAC's I've had through here. 4. They really sing if you can turn up the volume a bit. And then the mids really come out to play. I did all my listening without a sub. These have pretty decent bass, with good resolution. When the notes get low, you can tell it runs out of steam and you get the tuning (port) hump. But still, all good. I listened to: Dire Straits: Brothers in Arms Nicholas Gunn: Thirty-One Nights (amazing on the NUEMI) Tanita Tikaram: several selections Stevie Ray Vaughan: Most of the "Essential" album Pink Floyd: The Wall All these albums (and more) sounded just as I expected as compared to say the ELAC UB52 (which I still have). I could easily just keep these, even though they are not as smooth as the '52 and slightly "U" shaped in the response curve. Not quite as detailed. But then the '52 is a $600 speaker. This one is $100. Who knows? Maybe it's just my old age hearing. If you need something brighter and maybe better defined, check out the Sony SSCS5's. I'll say this: I am NOT returning them and I DID return the ELAC Debut Reference's and sold everything else, keeping only the UB52's.

To preface, I am an audiophile, and I'm pretty picky. BUT, I'm not an audio snob, I very much appreciate low-cost speakers that sound good. Venues such as Amazon has brought us very good audio equipment without having to pay insane prices. When you get these, play them for awhile to break in. Actually, you should do that with any speaker. They need time to loosen up. The good - They are very pleasant sounding. Decent bass (hey, it's only a 5 1/4), and treble is nice, if a bit rolled back. I would classify these as "warm" speakers, meaning the highs and mids are a bit on the subtle side. They have a pretty decent response graph for an inexpensive speaker, so they are not fatiguing at all. The cabinets are attractive, if a bit plain. The magnetic grills are a nice touch and the magnets are quite strong. The front porting will allow more flexibility in placement and they can be put closer to walls. These are very well suited to near-field application, such as on a desk. The bad - The cabinets are a bit on the hollow side. I will probably glue a dowel in mine to stiffen them. The treble is a bit laid back for me. I like my speakers a little on the brighter side, and these are on the warm side of the spectrum. Some will like that, I find them lacking a bit on dynamics. These are also very inefficient, but that's only a problem if you don't have the power to drive them. I compared these to a set of kit speakers I built that cost $100. This might not be entirely fair; the kit speakers probably have superior parts due to the fact that the manufacturer does not have costs in assembly. Assembly and finish came from my equity, and some skills are required to build them. But, the $100 kit speakers were significantly better than these. I also compared them with the Micca RB-42 speakers costing $150. They are pretty close, but the Miccas are slightly better, having better cabinets and a more refined crossover. But, these are a better bargain. Then there are t he Micca OoOs for $100. I would still take the OoOs between the two, though these will play louder than the OoOs due to the larger driver. In summery, these are very good speakers for the price. If $90 is your budget, I don't know of a better set of speakers. They are pleasant to listen to and anyone but the most demanding of listeners will love them. It wasn't long ago that you would have paid big bucks for speakers of this quality, so we can be thankful that internet companies such as Amazon have provided sales venues for new brands who are making quality audio for budget prices. As I mentioned earlier, I am quite particular about my speakers. But I will keep these and enjoy them. I have barely been able to hear dialogue from my TV and was using closed captioning as a workaround. One day it hit me that this wasn't ideal and I could do something about it. It turns out that this is a common problem with modern TVs. This led me down the speaker rabbit hole. First I thought about getting a sound bar then took a step back to bookshelf speakers. I gravitated from powered speakers to passive speakers with an amp, since I liked the idea of potentially getting the best components for the money which can be individually upgraded or replaced. The Neumi BS5's are frequently recommended on subreddit r/BudgetAudiophile along with the Aiyima A07 power amp, so I went with that combination. Two YouTube channels that were especially helpful to me have been Erin's Audio Corner and Cheap Audio Man. I am using an HD Google ChromeCast as my main input and an HDMI-to-RCA converter (ASIN: B00BIQER0E) to connect it to the amp. The ChromeCast readily handles streaming from services like YouTube, Spotify, and Amazon Prime, and I found a piece of software called mkchromecast which can stream audio and video files from a PC through it. I got some thicc speaker wire from KnuKonceptz (ASIN: B008H3NXK6) and banana plugs from FosPower (ASIN: B0C3WKLL2R). I am in an apartment so can't turn up the volume too loud. The sofa is about 6 feet back from the speakers and the speakers are placed about 5 feet apart. The difference in sound quality between the TV speakers and the A07 + BS5's is game changing. Not only can I understand dialogue now, but with music it sounds like a proper stereo system - all kinds of music: jazz, rap, heavy metal, electronic. I lack the vocabulary to describe the auditory immersion I get from this system that I was lacking from TV speakers and laptop speakers. It's really wonderful. One thing is the nice flat response where the bass doesn't overpower everything else and the treble isn't piercing. The system gets plenty loud for me with the A07's volume knob turned up to only the 9:00 position. The TV, ChromeCast, A07, and BS5's have formed the basis for a nice little music listening & TV watching room on a relatively small budget. To elevate the speakers to about ear-level with someone who is sitting down, I built some simple bookshelves from pine boards as speaker stands. With all that said, keep in mind that I am someone who just moved to "real speakers" from "afterthought speakers", and not an audiophile by any means. I also haven't been exposed to much else in high end audio, especially not the super expensive stuff. One other facet of the budget audiophile rabbit hole that's worth mentioning are in-ear monitors (IEMs). I recently got into these as well, and have been starting to appreciate them.

I was looking for good budget but quality speakers and these are a great choice. I bought 2 pair. For reference these replaced 4 cheap Auvio 6.5's that I purchased from Radio Shack 10 years ago for 40 bucks a pair, which apparently were wired out of phase from the factory and I had to open them and rewire. The Neumi's are in a whole new league. Highs and mids are clear and have a nice crisp sparkle without being harsh and the bass these things can do is no joke. They are rated down to 50hz and they mean it. A sub is always better to have but if you don't have one, these will do well enough on their own. I've also noticed the bigger soundstage they produce. Everything is more lively and spacious. Beyond that these speakers are very handsome in my opinion, solid and hefty feel with nice wooden finish, no nonsense. As a bonus, the manual has really good info and tips as well. Overall I'm stunned by how big and detailed these sound. You're hard pressed to find better quality at this price point. They could cost twice as much and still be a solid purchase. As far as I know, there is no matching center but that would be perfect.

I spent days on YouTube looking for the answer to the question, “what’s the best speaker I can get on the dream of building a modest ~$100 bookshelf speaker setup?” A 1980’s era Pioneer RX-510 stereo receiver had recently come into my possession. I even got the 90’s era PD-F605 CD player, which holds TwENtY FIvE compact discs. What a sign of the times. Anyway, I was in search of a pair of bookshelf speakers to try to get the most out of this blast from the past. I didn’t want to spend too much, but I didn’t want to regret dropping $40-80 on something that just wouldn’t deliver. I saw a dude review these against some price comparable Polks, some pretty dope Sony’s, and a few others that had some neat things going for them. But these Neumi’s placed second only to the Sony’s, which now retail for closer to $200 rather than $100. So for about $110, these were enough to push me right above what I estimated spending for some bookshelf speakers, but I’m glad I did and have no regrets. I don’t have capability for a dedicated sub with my setup, so I was looking for something with some decent range. The double front port gave me some hope. And they’re two-way. You get some nice options for the highs there with the silk domes as well as the biggest woofer you can get at this price point? Solid. And the grills are magnetic? Nice touch. My Klipsches downstairs have them slide in joints. If you want some respectable, bang-for-buck bookselves, put your money on these.

Speaker components have changed very little over the years: bass driver, mid range, and tweeter in a rectangular box for the most part. What has changed is the refinement of those components. I've only had these small speakers for a few days now but I already know they were a good purchase. I'm using them in a 16 x 18 foot room and they easily fill the space with sound. The sound is slightly on the warm side which I like. The mid range and tweeter are excellent. Because of their size the bass may be a little lacking for some people. bit if you have a receiver with a 'bass boost' function you'll be fine. They really sound good for the price. You could probably spend 200 dollars more and not get a better sounding speaker. A few YouTubers tested these out and came to the same conclusion. If you want to hear these speakers at their best, listen to any album by Johannes Linstead. He's a Spanish guitarist with a great backup band. I think a lot of people would be happy with the sound of these speakers.

小さい、重い、スタンドに載せてびくともしない。この重さが筐体から出る低音や中低域の支えになっている。高域とのバランスは良い。なかなか馬力のある音で、ロック、ジャズ、ポップスとジャンルを問わない。ボーカルやクラッシックもそこそこ鳴らすが、音の粒子が粗い傾向がある。そのためソプラノやバイオリンソナタはキツイ。逆にフルオーケストラシンフォニーが面白い。優等生ではないが、ミニJBL’ミニアルテックの感覚で使うのもいいかも。

They are connected to a Fosi mini class D amp for streaming music in my living room. Sounds great.

Perfect for small studio apartments. Adequate bass and clarity. I paired this with a Fosi Audio BT20A and it's perfect!

There Are Budget speakers I tried 3 pairs Micca, Sony and on other names not coming to mind. I was expecting more considering the Reviewers. Nueumi BS5 Poor highs and sound very distanced. Settled for SMNy CSS-5 (3 way) bookshelves with excellent highes and it felt like the band war right there. Of Course I Bought the sony's at $100 off so they were budget!
