Perdido Street Station [Deckle Edge] Publisher: Del Rey

Perdido Street Station is a ruthlessly bizarre fantasy/monster story set in a dystopian city inhabited by a seemingly endless variety of strange creatures. The story is entertaining but the characters seemed like vehicles for the concepts on display which, to this reader, were unclear. Other readers might be reminded of the city of Sigil from 2nd edition dungeons and dragons or The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. My wife said it was like reading high fantasy on acid.This book might be for you if you enjoy descriptions of gritty and alien creatures and environments with references to familiar tropes and situations.This book may not be for you if you can get frustrated suspending your disbelief of the increasingly strange or if you are easily disgusted.
