This rope throw bag is compact, light to carry and easy to manage. I used this to take several BSA Scouts through the Swimming Merit Badge, where we practiced line throws (where the line must be thrown 35-40 feet in total, slightly past and over the head of the victim and in water rescues where the rescuer must swim wide and then behind the victim with the line looped around their neck and shoulder. I bought the 75-foot version. The carabiner is ideal to immediately wrap around your waist if you are the tender or secure to a cleat or other object. The bag is mostly full of line when you throw it, and this is enough weight to get the distance you need -- over and beyond the victim so that they can reach for the line. It all works, but I would recommend practicing your throw many times. You have to get a feel for throwing it because if you miss, you have to reel it in, and it will now be completely wet and a different weight. This takes time while your victim may be flailing. It's one of those products that you buy if you are serious and if you are serious, you practice. Essential for any recreational boater.

You might need to carefully pick the amount of rope you need in a throw bag. This one seems to be a great length and I probably couldn't throw a heaver, longer rope any farther than this bag. The locking gate carabiner is a great feature for clipping it to your PFD or to the boat for quick, but clean-lines safe accessibility. The rope unwinds quickly in a throw and really does work well to get a swimmer back in the boat.

Very well made product. I bought the 70' length as I'd rather have a little more than not enough. Still compact enough for my kayak. I like the included carabiner and nicely sized float.
