This is awesome!!
Advice for buyers!! I followed the instructions to the absolute letter and even contacted Elliot at urban farm it when I couldn't get these to fruit at all. I cannot stress enough how these dudes need natural sunlight, warmth of 20 degrees plus and not as much water as you think! After thinking my kit was duff and everything I was advised *SEEMED* not to work I totally forgot about the box which was under the curtains near the patio door so it had had no attention from me for over a month from the last point of contacting Elliot when we agreed I'd probably ruined mine. I went to feed the wild birds 3 days ago and the feed is nearby the box. Noticed the box still there and went to chuck it on compost.... Oh wait... Tiny pink pin pricks poking out of the bottom holes of the spawn bag!! The next day after a very light misting of water as it had nothing for over a month, there was an oyster the size of an ear and some pin pricks coming and today they're as in the photo, the largest one is 2x3 inches, about half the size of my hand.So... Don't lose heart if nothing happens with yours! I started mine in March and this year has been very cold late winter. My house is always pretty cold and I have nowhere other than the patio doors with any natural sunlight because of the way my house faces. I had put them in the greenhouse at one point thinking the humidity would be perfect for them. It isn't. If you follow the instructions you get with this kit and set yourself calendar reminders for when to do the next steps as it is a fairly lengthy process encouraging the spawn in the dark for a couple of weeks, but if you follow it all perfectly then just leave it somewhere sunny but not hot hot and then let it do its thing... I promise you you'll discover a mushy crop of oysters! Just don't start these in a cold end of winter if you don't have central heating! If you get stuck email the address you use to order your spawn and Elliot will gladly help you. He's ever so friendly and knows everything there is about mushrooms!I cannot rate this kit highly enough. I've used lots of mushroom kits before from the compost ones to this one but with what's happening in the box right now this is already the largest same time crop I've had! They're unbelievably fun to look at every day, take a pic and see how much they've grown since the day before. This is worth every penny. The good thing is fresh spawn! Most kits come with the spawn in the compost or in the kit to mix in. These kits require you to email a code to the email address given and your spawn will then be sent out faster than you can imagine! The spawn is grain mixed and fresh as. Makes a good mix in the straw and if you follow every step as intended just leave the spawn guys to do its thang!Never think it's finished! Wait. Wait. Wait. Forget about it then discover the joy of finding its fruited! 🏆 Best mushroom kit I've bought! Will be buying more. Just not in winter in my house! Although I have now bought a heat mat for my seedlings so I could probably pull it off now but I guarantee your house is warmer than mine and won't be an issue anyway!5 stars, great kit, great customer service and great fun!!

Excellent results, tasty mushrooms
We bought this as a Christmas present for a 7 year old. We followed the instructions that came with the kit. It takes a while to get going and if you're buying for a younger child as we did they will need help (to be expected). We maintained moisture in the box with the supplied water sprayer and after a few weeks the mushrooms started to grow. Once the mushrooms starts to grow they increase in size very quickly so make sure you keep an eye on them. The result was a good crop of very tasty oyster mushroom. We maintained moisture levels going forward and a few weeks later we got a second crop. Overall very pleased with the product and it was a very enjoyable activity to do with kids. Would definitely recommend.

Interesting little gift
Bought as a gift for my dad for Xmas. I'm always looking for something a little different as an extra. The spores for growing need to be ordered separately when you are ready to start growing your mushrooms. The kit is good and the spores arrived really quick when he was ready to cultivate. Personally I do think it's quite expensive for what it is. You do get a couple of harvests from it. Once they start growing you have to put in a bit of effort with spraying them a few times a day to keep them moist. Once they start they grow really fast and appear to just explode into massive mushrooms! It's quite fun to watch their progress, and I think it's a great project for kids. They don't need to wait ages for results with their limited patience. We made some omelets with our mushrooms, and they tasted great. All in, it ticks a lots of boxes as a unique quirky gift, and I'd like to try some of the other variety of mushrooms available. The kit itself allows you to do everything. The only downside is that it's an expensive hobby if you go down this route. You're probably better off ordering spores elsewhere if you intend to keep growing them.

Good for beginners
After 3 weeks in, I must say that this kit is pretty good for beginners like me.First of all, I don’t agree with reviews saying that it’s a fraud and you only get a box with straw - YES, you do get a box with straw, BUT you also get a voucher to redeem your fresh mycelium completely for FREE from the kit maker’s website. This comes with no shipping fee whatsoever, just input the voucher code or scan the QR and you’re good to go.Back to the mushrooms. Yesterday there was nothing showing on the box, today I woke up to this sight.I definitely don’t have perfect conditions, after the first steps and holding them under my bed in the darkness we moved them on top of our wardrobe because we don’t really have much space for anything in our tiny home.I, honestly, didn’t even expect that anything would grow out of it given my circumstances. But here it is! If I could do it then everybody can.It kinda motivated me to look into mushroom growing on its own, and I think I might even DIY a homemade mushroom growth setup on my own. It will work out cheaper than having to buy a cardboard with straw, I will just have to buy mycelium.Overall, this is a good kit. There’s nothing fishy here as long as you follow the instructions and redeem your free mycelium voucher. I would totally recommend for complete beginners like me.EDIT: the photos I attached were taken approx. 24 hours away. Yes, the mushrooms did grow so much just overnight. We decided to pick up the biggest ones. I breaded them with some spices and put them in the air fryer - delicious! So crunchy on the outside, perfectly tender inside. I love it. I definitely want to try grow more of them in the future.I’m still keeping the box because there are still some very small shroomies growing there, and I’m curious whether they’re gonna grow as well as the first batch. I’ll just keep spraying this box with water and we’ll see how much more mushrooms we’ll grow.Is the amount of mushrooms worth it for £20? Hard to say for now, because I harvested the first batch and still see some new growth.I think oyster mushrooms are quite expensive to buy, I actually never ever bought them in the UK before because I simply can’t find them anywhere so I have no idea how much a small pack of oyster mushrooms costs at your typical supermarket. So speaking from the perspective of someone who really wanted these mushrooms and couldn’t find them - it’s worth it for me. The worst part is waiting for them. The overall experience is worth it in my opinion.I think this is more forgiving than your typical gardening, I’m honestly so horribly miserable at gardening and taking good care of plants. Yet I managed to grow those shroomies on top of my wardrobe in the living room.Another great thing is that you can do it all year round. Of course you need to check if you have the conditions at your home like good humidity and temperature, cleanliness etc. but in general, if I had more space at home, I would definitely set up more than just one box to have sufficient supply of mushrooms.

Misleading and Complicated – Wish I Hadn't Bothered
I bought this kit hoping for a quick and easy way to grow mushrooms at home, but it turned out to be a frustrating and misleading experience. The product description makes it sound like everything you need is included, but that’s not the case.First, the living spawn isn’t included in the box. You have to redeem a voucher, wait for it to be sent separately (which took an extra three days for me), and only then can you start the growing process. This setup seems designed to save the seller money on logistics by shifting the burden onto the customer. When the spawn finally arrived, the process to germinate was far more complex and time-consuming than advertised. You need to follow detailed steps, store the kit at different temperatures, and troubleshoot if things go wrong. This is not the "fast-growing" or "easy" kit they claim. On top of that, the kit was supposed to include a spray bottle for watering, but mine didn’t. It’s just another example of how poorly thought out and incomplete this product is.Overall, this kit is more of a DIY science project than a convenient way to grow mushrooms. The description is misleading, the product isn’t complete, and the process is unnecessarily complicated. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone looking for a straightforward or enjoyable experience.

Disappointed
Great idea, unfortunately they didn’t grow for me despite having them stored where recommended. Maybe just a bad batch as I have previously had them grow fine.

What a great present
I bought this for a friend recently and they loved it. They are on their second batch of mushrooms from the box and told me that their first grown tasted really good. They are now buying a box as a present for someone else

Wonderful Kit
Wonderful kit, it really is. It makes the process pretty simple, the only issue is that during sterilisation you are told to roll down the lid of a boiling hot bag of water and steam with only the helpful suggestion that you "take care" if you have oven gloves, its a good time to use them. For me they were a little slower to progress than expected but the websites instructions come with very useful photographs of what each stage should look like. Its really important not to try to fruit them too early!I got two flushes out of my packet and probably would have gotten a third if not for a minor ant invasion. This is a wonderful beginner kit that gets you familiar with basically everything you need to know, the only bit missing is cultivating your own spawn but that does require more professional kit and is more temperamental so most folks just buy spawn when needed instead.
