Well made and easy to read

I'm professional wood worker. In my experience almost all adjustable squares nowadays need to trued. This involves a registered granite plate, sand paper, and about a half hour's work. Sadly, there's is not much you can do about the locking tab that grabs the grove in the rail. If they are made out of cheap pot metal they tend to grind when the rule slides and fail to grab properly in short order. This is why I ALWAYS look for a brass locking tab. Not just the knob mind you, but the threaded tab. This Crescent product had this feature so I went for it. However, I had no intention of truing this one as it is of an entirely different design and manufacturing than the typical poorly machined squares that abound. Its coated with a Teflon and if was square great, if not I intended to return it. Well, Lo and behold, it is square! and the 45 degree is dead on! It may not be a Starret, but given the price I am awarding 5 stars.

Crescent has made a great quality combination square... Highly recommend the 6" and the 12"... As a welder, this tool is one of the most used tools in the bag and these are the best for the price!

PRO . Not cast pot metal . Made from an extrusion and hard anodized . Machined the old fashioned way . The scribe that you are never going to use is screwed in to the main body . Accurate . CONS . Throw away the rule and get a used name brand 12"-24" . Use it as a back scratcher . The knurled screw could be bigger . Regards TOOLMAKER SMITH .

I wish Crescent made this in a 16 inch version.

I tried this tool on a small DIY project and it technically does the job, but it’s not great. The first thing I noticed is that it feels a little cheap in the hand. It’s not falling apart or anything, but it doesn’t feel very solid compared to other tools I’ve used. Something I didn’t like is that sometimes it gets stuck when moving it over the wood to mark the line. Depending on the grain of the wood, it doesn’t always glide smoothly and you have to adjust it or go slower. In the end I decided to return it. It works, but between the cheaper feel and the way it sometimes sticks while marking, it just wasn’t what I was looking for.

The ruler is not of very strong steel. It arrived with the ruler badly bent. Other brands I own have thicker and stronger rulers. I don't recommend this square for frequent use in shops.

Don't buy! Bad and unuself .. just heavy blukky junk, period!

Pleasantly surprised at the quality compared to typical offerings generally at higher cost. The scale is laser etched on a plain ground steel blade, so crisp legible black lines & numerals. The blades slides very nicely in the groove with no play & locks positively square with knurled nut. The main handle seems to be CNC milled from bar stock & black anodized? which I really like, as opposed to the typical cast bodies which are 'ok' but seem to be lower quality. I checked squareness with my good machinist squares & they are quite accurate. Using this for carpentry work so perfectly fine IMO.
