Great bowl maker with a learning curve
I love this product. It is simple and easy to use. Plug it in and it is on and unplug to turn off. Yes it has a short cord as it should because you want it on the counter. There is a bit of a learning curve in using this and not difficult. I use a nylon basting brush to lightly coat the top and bottom of the bowl maker with avocado oil while it is unplugged. Once it was oiled I closed it and plugged it in then waited until the unit heated. The green light on my unit turns amber and actually does not turn green. I used the nylon brush and coated both sides of the tortilla's with avocado oil. Once I had them oiled I put them in the bowl maker using my hand pushed it down to help get it started. I suggest using a dish towel, oven mitts, or in my case ove gloves to open and close the hot unit. The instructions say to wait about 3-4 minutes. This is the learning curve. I watch for the steam to stop coming from the unit and check to see if it is browned enough. I will then close the lid again to ensure the water has been baked off from the tortillas. The tortilla's come out very crispy. The bowls do have to cool completely for them to crisp. The first time the tortilla bowls were a bit chewy and not crispy. The second time I used more oil and left them longer. They came out crispier. The third time I left them until no more steam, opened and closed the lid to ensure all the water cooked off, then waited for the bowls to cool completely. Success. I am very happy with this purchase. I have not tried using the 10 inch tortillas because not sure it it will fit or not. I will update if I decide to try the larger tortilla. If you have some patience and are willing to "suffer" the learning curve you will be happy with the results. I would not let children help using this because the bowl maker gets extremely hot and the risk of burn is high. It is a non-stick and the size is perfect for 8 inch tortillas. There is no on/off button, gets extremely hot, and using protection for your hands is a must when opening and closing. I still would purchase again because it does not take very long to make and the success I have had is fantastic.

Brilliant Invention
After enjoying a Taco Bowl salad at a local restaurant, I wanted to make my own at home. But I didn't realize what a production it would be trying to use oven-style bowl baking pans to create the shell. It takes far too long to preheat an oven for one taco bowl, not to mention wasting a lot of energy. So I was keenly interested when I discovered this electric bowl baker. The first use was a bit messy. By trial and error I learned that it's a good idea not only to generously coat the inside of the baker with olive oil, but also to brush the bottom of your tortilla shell with oil so that it bends easily into the shape of the baking interior, instead of cracking apart when you close the lid. A pre-oiled shell will gently tuck itself into the baker. I also learned that an 8-inch shell is the ideal size for this unit. A 10-inch shell is too large, leaving about an inch of unbaked shell around the edges of your bowl. To bake an 8-inch shell, I let the unit heat up for 3-4 minutes after I plug it in. That way I have a nicely browned bowl about three minutes after tucking it inside the appliance. If I want it crispier, I leave it in longer. You can open and close the lid as often as you like to check progress. One caution is that the unit gets extremely hot and emits hot steam when you open it, so you need oven mitts or hot pads to maneuver the lid. The lid hatch is one of the two aspects of this item that isn't perfect. It's a bit difficult to grasp to open it when wearing mitts or using hot pads. The other feature that would be a useful addition would be an on-off switch so you didn't have to uplug it to turn it off. All in all, I'm delighted with this appliance. During my second attempt at using it, I baked a perfect taco bowl this afternoon.

Definitely worth considering!
I'll be honest with youโI only bought this appliance because it was on sale. I already had a set of metal tortilla bowl makers that are used in an oven, and they work fine. To my surprise, this Nostalgia Taco Bowl maker also works well, and may be even easier. I would suggest that you spray both sides of the tortilla with cooking oilโor spreading butter on both sidesโbefore putting it in the unit. Using a deep fryer may be the best way to make a taco bowl, but you need a deep fryer, and it may add calories to the dish. Soโ For a fast and easy way to make a tortilla taco bowl, this appliance is all you really need. Would I buy it at the regular retail price? Probably not. But either way, I doubt you will be disappointed. A taco salad really is fun to eat!

So so product
This is a so-so product. If pressed too hard the makes holes in the tortilla. If not pressed enough it doesnโt shape into a bowl. It was fun to make and healthier option to frying. I sprayed the tortilla with spray oil and it seemed to be crunchier and hold the bowl form better.

A Must for Taco Salad Lovers!
If you like taco salads, you need to purchase this tortilla bowl maker! They are so easy to make and there is not clean up! I made ours 3 hours before we were going to eat and they were so good! At first, I thought the bowls were going to be too small, but they werenโt at all! I canโt wait to make a taco bar at our next get together, and serve these bowls instead of taco shells. I used 8 inch flour tortillas that are carb friendly. You wonโt be disappointed with this small appliance!

Small disappointment but no dwal breaker
I gave this 4 stars because when I got it, it had some damage to the outside like it had been used before. But the cook time is great. My tortillas fit perfectly. The stability of the product was great. It makes my tortillas taste great.
