Great film if you are into photography and hoarding.
The most realistic documentary I have seen in years this takes you inside the life of one of the greatest New York City photographers and shows how he survives moving out of his place of residence for most of his life I highly recommend

A masterclass in character study and documenting a legend
A stunning and moving film. Capturing the essence of Jay Maisel is nearly impossible, and yet somehow here he is in all of his glory. A master creative mind given room to run free and create a life that's been truly extraordinary. If you're a photographer, or New Yorker, or Artist or architect this is a must-see.Without spoiling anything, this is by far the most intimate and personal view of this man's legendary persona, his career and work as a phenomenal photographer, and the transition from living in an incredible world of his own making to the next chapter.Rent this, Buy this, just see it.

Loved this!
What an amazing photographer with an amazing career and living work place. I don't think many in his field can claim living in a former bank building in New York City. You've probably seen his vivid color photographs through the years but may or may have not known the name. His work came of age when commercial photography was high paying for talent and a good eye and it got him far. You'll see his live/work space, his photos and the end of the era as his place was sold and his relocation destination. I love peering into the lives of amazing success stories like this.

What amazing look into a master photographer's life!
It wasn't until a few years ago when I really started look into the work of Jay Maisel. I had no idea that I've seen his work throughout my life. His outlook on life. His childish views on the world around him just absolutely amaze me. He sees the world in a very different light than anyone I have ever met, read about or studied. This movie was a wonderful into his life during the move from The Bowery to his new home. I feel like I've lived his life right along with him. This movie was incredible and inspiring at the same time!

A peek into a Genius' mind. Amazing Doc!
Inspiring and amazing overview of the enigma and genius of Jay Maisel. Probing without sentiment, it is a rare exposé of the workings of a visually gifted artist. Hoarding at a virtuoso level, you come to understand the value of objects - viewer - and view. Well paced and terrific archival footage really honor the subject matter. Inspiring as well as informative, I couldn't ask for more.

Great documentary and a cure for those caught up in de-cluttering
I first heard about this movie being made about two years ago and eagerly awaited its final release. I was not disappointed. Jay's story is compelling and well done by the film maker. What is it like to live in a 6-story, 35,000 square foot bank building for 40 years of accumulating "stuff" and then sell the building and have to clear it out. Watch this movie to find out how that all went down.

Great insight into a fascinating person!
I spent a fantastic week with Jay at the bank as one of his photography workshop participants in 2010. Having toured the bank, I can’t imagine the complexity of moving. The film captured Jay perfectly, and was fascinating to watch.

Missed opportunities
The DVD was a long time arriving and anticipation was high... but it was a disappointment. The film maker really wants to make a film about himself and tries to get in every frame. The building is not really explored... really, almost all footage showing how interesting the building is is in the trailer. Jay's philosophy only makes a rare appearance. This film is a missed opportunity.
