Njal's Saga (Classics of World Literature)

It’s a good family saga. Poor Njal the family patriarch had to deal with the ultimately fatal consequences of the bad behaviour of the family dandy, braggart and juvenile delinquent Skarp Hedin.

Start with this one which is a gritty tale. A thrilling read.

really enjoyed this; probably my equal favourite with Laxdaela Saga

This is clearly an excellent book and though I did not finish reading it what I read was very engaging and I could not put it down. However, the Penguin edition seems a much better bet than this one which stupidly seems to assume that, because it's ancient literature, the reader wants the title of each chapter to spoil the story (i.e. "___ kills ___")...I'd much rather just read the story without having to evade these irritating spoilers so I'm going to take a chance on the Penguin edition (their publications of classical and historic literature are generally excellent) and hope that has not done the same thing...
