I built a black and white digital picture frame using this display, and it is absolutely gorgeous. I connected it to a Raspberry Pi Zero W, a Waveshare 8-button unit (for controlling the functionality) and a position switch (to determine whether the frame is hanging in landscape or portrait mode). It displays a new photo every day. I ran +5V through the wall, coming out behind the frame. The high-resolution display has 16 gray levels, and with proper dithering the image looks fully continuous tone and very much like an actual black and white photo on printed on photographic paper. (Disclosure note: I am a retired color scientist with lots of experience in digital imaging, C++ programming and Raspberry Pi, so I did lots of customization.) I would recommend this product. There is nothing like it on the market that I know of.
