Sorry but there is too many possible issues due linux and alarm.

Q: What is the use of the rj11 telephone connection on the back? does it have an adsl modem built in also?

Their is no built in adsl modem,why would it,the B818 is a 4g modem router. Internet is provided by installing a sim card. The rj11 socket is for you to connect up your landline phone so you can make calls on your unlimited sim. I have a cordless answerphone connected to my B818.
