Donโt use screws that came with it.
It hasnโt rained yet for me to see how well it catches water. But I donโt recommend using the screws it came with. Mine stripped instantly and I was able to easily snip them with wire cutters. Replaced with just drywall screws I had laying around. But I like this design that you can actually empty it. Bought it to replace one that you werenโt able to do that with. We will see after it rains how well it catches!

Markings are small
We just used colored tape to mark the inches.

Nice design
The screws are cheap. Stripped very easily. I used different ones. If it weren't for the screws i would have given it 5 stars.

Great rain gauge
This rain gauge did exactly what it is supposed to do. The base is metal, so sturdy enough for this use. The gauge itself is plastic and lasted for 3 years out in the rain and snow. I gave it 4 stars because I have not been able to find a replacement for the gauge that fits. Most of the replacements are glass and too narrow. Finally, I ordered the cheaper, plastic version from the same company, threw away the holder and used just the gauge. Perfect!

It will crack
Bought this product as all the glass gauges will crack. Even though it is plastic it cracked with the first freeze of the winter. Waste of money.

Nice but with a small flaw.
Works fine, looks good but comes with 3 sections of rod for post that are supposed to screw together. Unfortunately, one section I received didn't seem to have threads cut in female end. Fortunately, section that sticks into the ground and the other rod did screw together and that assembly did screw into gauge holder. So I have a functional, nice looking, sturdy rain gauge, just not as tall as it is supposed to be.

Inaccurate - poor design!
After getting this a while ago, when we finally got rain, there was a difference between this and my old rain gauge. This product always showed quite a bit more rain than the other - as high as 50% more!I searched for the correct way to measure rain, and found that all that's required is a flat-bottomed cylinder of any diameter with a straight reading from a ruler or tape measure. Unfortunately, this product is tapered, with the top being wider than the bottom. The scale matches my ruler exactly, so there is no compensation for the taper.

The perfect water gauge
I looked at every water gauge on Amazon before choosing this one. I love the dual metric/imperial scales, the ease of emptying it and replacing it and the quality construction. Remember to remove this gauge indoors when it starts to freeze at nights or it will freeze and break like every other plastic water gauge. I mounted mine on my fence facing north to protect the plastic from the sun's rays which over time will degrade any plastic.

It's gauges the rain
It gauges the rain. Holding frame does the job, however it will break after a few years with the elements deterioratin it. I enjoy the price to quality ratio. This is My 3rd one, and happy to buy them again and again to keep them looking new. Even the high quality ones that are very expensive will fade over time. That's why I picked this nice cheap version which does the exact same intention. And it's no big deal to buy a new one every year or two to keep it looking brand new.

My original one worked fine for a few years
I can barley give three stars. My original one worked fine for a few years, then just below freezing, it cracked. I purchased a replacement and within a month temperature went just below freezing again and the new one cracked. I finally found a unit (Misol) that is supposed to be good to minus 40 and has excellent reviews. There is a copper model that no longer registers in metric. The new one will take a few weeks for delivery, so meanwhile I plastered household goop over the crack as a temporary measure. It is odd that so few rain gauges are freeze compatible.

Accurate, but cheaply made - look elsewhere
I've bought two of these and each only lasted six months. I'm in a somewhat colder climate (Eastern Canada), but it's only used six months per year. Even though it is only left outside for late spring, summer and fall, each year it has cracked. I will be replacing it with a different model.
