Good value and very fast
After lots of research and trying to get info ‘real world’ performance, arrived at this as the best choice and most effective. I like LaCie products. They have always been rugged and trustworthy. I have many of their drives. The speed is clearly fast compared to previous fast SSD by LaCie themselves on thunderbolt interface. Use it with a MacBook Pro and Macbook M1.

This review is for the LaCie Rugged SSD Pro 1TB Solid State Drive — USB-C Thunderbolt 3. I'm using it as an external SSD for a Mac Mini w/ Thunderbolt 3. It comes formatted in exFAT which works on both Mac and PCs but it will be dedicated to a Mac Mini so it's best formatted as APFS for best speed. It took about 1sec to do that. It copied a movie file of 70 GB from the internal SSD in less than 10 sec. To do an encrypted Time Machine backup of the entire 256 GB SSD internal storage it took less than 15 mins. It's blazing fast and I'm impressed. Small enough to fit in a shirt pocket and super light. Unless I have a problem and need to come back to update this review it stands as it is.

I bought the LaCie SSD Pro to keep my 2017 iMac going its seven years old. The LaCie SSD comes with a thunderbolt 3 cable. It's really short, so I bought a longer one for $20 on Amazon with my order perfect. I formatted and rebooted the computer and installed Mac OS. It feels like I got a new computer, snappy and fast. Does get a bit warm but that's to be expected for an external SSD. Happy with it and recommend!

I quite enjoy the world off SSD hard drives. But owning a MacBook Pro M2 16 inch left me a bit dry as it doesn’t have the highest usb c speed. But I’ve got accustomed to the Samsung T7 drives that are reliable, just not as fast as I would like. Now that I’m doing some video editing and want to edit off the portable drive, I wanted something faster so I could keep my work from eating up the precious memory in the laptop that can’t be upgraded. Enter the LaCie Rugged Pro SSD. It uses lightning connectors so it’s really fast. And this matches up well with my MacBook Pro. Literally plug and play. Note: You have to use a Lightning Cable to get the full speed of this drive!!!! I did a quick speed test using Black Magic which allot of tech people seem to like. See picture of speeds noted in my test. I have no idea if it’s accurate. I just know the Lacie drive will transfer a 50 GB file in seconds, whereas the Samsung might be 10 minutes. But like I stated above, use a lightning cable. A normal usb c will work, you just won’t get the nice speed. So, this drive is a night and day difference to moving large files around. Not just by a bit, it is by allot. The build seems fairly good, the drive is housed by a robust silicone case that certainly repels water and takes an impact if you drop it to the floor. The drive comes with a 5 year warranty and 5 years of data recovery. I can’t attest to these services as I’ve never used them. I also don’t know if buying from Amazon negates the warranty. I do know at the time of this review (Sep 16, 2024), Lacie has partnered with Adobe giving you a free taste of their services before they start hitting you with a billion w-mails to siphon money for their overpriced apps. It’s speed. That’s what you are buying. I mean, the Samsungs have earned a solid reputation for reliability. I don’t know how this LaCie will fare. I have a LaCie drive that is twenty years old and still works which has seen light duty use in that time. Since then, LaCie was sold (to Seagate I believe). So who knows. But if this drive holds up then I think it’s worth the extra cost, especially if you are an impatient person, or your time is valuable, or is worth money. Like me. For all three of those boxes, this checks ‘em. I just can’t attest to longevity. Recommended.

Was in the market for an external HDD Hard drive and stumbled upon this pup and decided to spend the extra money and go with and SSD. Glad I did. I am using this to store extended sound libraries from some Logic Pro X and other third party sound libraries. Pros 1) Extremely small and light weight. Fits in the palm of my hand 2) Has the same LaCie Durability that their HDD Hard Drives have 3) Incredibly fast. It took about 20 minutes to download 80% of extended Logic Pro X sound library onto this little thing. 4) The connection when using the external sound libraries with the program is seamless. No delays in connection. Cons 1) The mini thunder bolt 3 (USBC) cord they give you is small and very sensitive so if you're moving the computer around at all, the connection will get cut. Something to keep in mind if you're outdoors and using this for photography. 2) Can heat up rather quickly if its being used for an extended period of time. I am currently using it in the winter time in a cooler room, so i'm not overly concerned about it now.
