Stockwell II - Versatile around the house, gold trim looks good
Update after Three Year's use __________________________ Mostly this has been very reliable having been in daily use most of the time and surviving being dropped more than once. On one occasion it just locked up, would not turn off or respond in any way, but had a flashing red light. After about an hour or so it seemed to recover and since then it has been nearly ok apart from one quirk. Sometimes when it is still 'awake' and waiting for the next bluetooth input, it will emit a quiet sort of click or scratch sound at intervals of a few seconds. That seems to go away when an actual audio signal is received. One major annoyance - the sound it makes on connect/disconnect is too loud and cannot be adjusted in any way. A purely visual signal would be better. Original review below: ------------------------- Easily carried from room to room. It's ok by the bedside for quiet listening as well as louder when needed. The gold nameplate and knob finish is a nice touch. Generous bass for such a tiny box - better than any transistor radio of a similar size that I ever heard. Bluetooth connection to phone or tablet is excellent. It's good for spoken voice radio as well as watching films or TV, but really shines with music of various types, from folk through jazz and classical, even bass-heavy rock and pop. There is some sort of stereo effect, but not spectacular. Place it near a wall or in a corner for even fuller bass. It has been mentioned elsewhere that the 3.5mm cable connection is flawed, I found that too - the device rapidly goes into a sleep mode in a couple of seconds, then wakes up just after the next track or sound has begun. Having said that, I've used a 3.5mm lead to listen to a talk on BBC R4 and it was ok. Use bluetooth where possible instead, no problems there. This is a modestly powered speaker, if you want ear-shattering volume, then look for something larger and more powerful. At ยฃ144 when purchased, a reasonably-priced way to add a bit of oomph inevitably lacking on most built-in device speakers. Overall, definitely recommended.

Suprisingly Easy to use
I am extremely impressed with its sound quality and design. The speaker has a retro look that is reminiscent of Marshall's classic guitar amplifiers and it adds a touch of nostalgia to the overall aesthetic. The sound quality of this speaker is exceptional. It has a powerful and clear sound that fills the room with rich and dynamic audio. The bass is deep and tight, the mids are clear and the highs are crisp and not harsh. I was surprised at how loud the speaker can get while still maintaining the clarity of the sound. It's perfect for listening to music, podcasts or watching videos. The battery life on this speaker is also impressive, it lasts for over 20 hours on a single charge, which is perfect for those long days at the beach or for a weekend trip. It also has a USB-C port for quick charging, which is a great feature. The controls on this speaker are intuitive and easy to use, and it also has a built-in microphone for taking calls, which is a great added feature. It also has a 3.5mm input for connecting non-Bluetooth devices. I would highly recommend the Marshall Stockwell II to anyone looking for a high-quality and stylish portable speaker. It has a great sound quality and design, and it's perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. The battery life is impressive, and the controls are user-friendly. It's a great speaker for anyone who loves music and wants a portable option to take with them on the go.

tune-able, rich audio.
Its definitely not the best audio quality. Obviously there are incredibly high-end systems for scientific purposes. However, for an audio pleb, this is one of the best. Especially for the fact that its a portable speaker bluetooth speaker. The audio that comes out of its speakers is rich, clean and detailed. Its loud if you want it, and full of bass if that's to your taste. If feels solid and well built. Has a fair amount of heft to it. The bits that let it down. Its heft - its a bit on the heavy side to carry around everywhere, everyday. Takes a while to charge. For a lightly water resistant device (more like splash proof), it would be nice to have covered ports. Furthermore, I would happily forego the inclusion of a carry handle for covered ports.

The most honest review
I loved the sound quality for the size. I loved the build I loved the sound when Playing a movie trailer it's like being in a mini cinema. The texture. The weight and the controls are awesome. I had it on full volume on my phone and full volume on the speaker. After 3 hours 60% of battery life was used. I could not really hear it well whilst working. I was out powered by a speaker at work which was a lot cheaper priced. I went to see this massive speaker and found it was half the size as my marshall. All being said I wouldn't swap it . But I think it's overpriced. If Marshall don't believe me get in touch.

Durable although somewhat overpriced and not that loud
I have to give this speaker five stars because I dropped it in the bath today -- it was literally sinking in the water, slipped out of my freaked-out hands, and then fell again -- and I dried it off and it sounds like nothing happened. Incredible! That said, the speaker sounds perfect when turned all the way up with bass and trebel at full throddle. Otherwise the sound performance is a bit weak for its price. It's great for a bedroom or perhaps even poolside, but not for a gathering of more than ten people, say. The Marshall II is better bang for your buck.

It's the little things that'll make you smile
I watched many reviews on Youtube before buying this portable bluetooth speaker, and I'm so glad that I made this choice. The speaker is a lovely size and weight, and the strap really finishes it off nicely. I really enjoy the small touches like the way the battery level indicator smoothly scrolls up to max when I switch the speaker on, the satisfying quality "click" feel when I turn the volume know to power-on the speaker, the USB-C charging port (which doubles as a phone charger if I need it to), the very slightly warm Marshall sound signature, the bluetooth pairing sound that's identical to my Marshall Mid ANC headphones. It's a modern-day piece of audio artwork. A real gem.

Stockwell II (Volume & Bass) Not good enough for the price (ยฃ219). Great Sound quality otherwise!
Ok now when it comes to audio I really like it when manufacturers surprise you with a little speaker that does wonders, I was kind of expecting that WoW factor here but this Speaker wasn't as impressive in terms of volume and fullness, BUT! what it lacks in these areas it makes up with a rather unique audio experience. Here are my thoughts. Packaging: Packaging was great, came in a nice box well protected on the inside. Accessories: In the box you get a USB C for charging the speaker, which is quite good as this is set for the future. you also get the manual and safety & warranty sheets. Speaker Build quality: The speaker has a really great build quality, it feels quite premium with a slight rubberised feel which I love. I think the toughness can really take a beating, so durability is not an issue here. Key Features and functionality: Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity was great with audio and video sync in movies from Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube. I also didn't have issues with distance or weak signal cracking around my small apartment, signal bonding was good. Volume & EQ Knobs are a joy!!, no need for an app to adjust EQ you can make little adjustment to better tune your music, the EQ really makes a difference but! dont expect worlds of difference here, they only boost and cut the Bass and Treble of your song. Battery level indicator was nicely done, in good visible area right at the top, battery life is excellent been using it for days off and on without a recharge. The Bluetooth button had me wondering how it works ๐ค, I thought you need to press it once for activation, but you are meant to press & hold for a few seconds to go into paring mode ๐oh me lol, I never read manual first. Could not test the water resistance, was too scared ๐. Sound Quality: Sound quality is really great, the sound signature is that of an 'open clear sound', the speaker adds some kind of reverb/delay effect to your music, very subtle but cleverly done. its like the effect is only affecting the mid-range and a bit of the highs, so it targets mostly vocals and solo instruments like trumpets and sax or lead guitars. This is quite unique and new as I haven't heard this well executed in a speaker. Sony tried something like this in their SRS XB 40 and 41 with the "LIVE" sound but in my opinion it was bad, but these guys manage to pull it off here. its not all perfect here tho! some songs actually suffer harm from this effect in my opinion, and since you can't turn it off that particular song will always sound weird every time it plays ๐ข, a control knob would have been great to adjust that effect to taste. The speaker is not a 360 speaker but it sure gives 360 speakers a good wake up call. the sound at the back is almost the same as the front just a little less shimmering, also great sound all around the speaker from all angles. Treble: The treble on this speaker is really good the clarity is awesome and Crystal. Mids: Mid range definition is also really great, the bass doesn't drone out the mids, the vocals are clear, even some nuances are heard clearly. BASS: now this is were we pack our bags and leave the show, this speaker is simply not a bass speaker or one for small parties. it is just about ok for a small room or low to average level listening. it lacks resonating low end, causing the music to feel a bit empty sometimes, this is more evident in Hip hop, Pop some EDM music with some 808 kick. However I found that backing the speaker to the coner of a wall will give a reasonable bass boost and some fullness, however there is no hope for the outdoors with that technique. other genres like smooth jazz, classical, funky and surprisingly some EDM with heavily compressed kicks actually sounds really good on here so its a hit and miss with the bass. keep in mind it has a small body too. Volume Level & Loudness: usually some speakers with weak bass at low levels will often resonate a bit better at higher volume levels, but this speaker will max out at about 80% in my opinion, if you go above that then the internal limiters will start to mess with the music which is just unpleasant to hear, and you end up turning the dials back down, and even at 80% the loudness is still not as majority of small body cheaper speakers on the market and this might be the surprising factor that may break the deal for some. Conclusion: Now the Stockwell 2's unique sound experience definitely has a place in the market but I think the price (at ยฃ219.99) is a bit much for what the speaker offers in general (as just a Bluetooth only speaker). The next point of action would be to look to the bigger brothers, the Killburn 2 and the Tufton, but seeing that the price of the Kilburn II is too close to the Stockwell 2 makes me to question the performance of the Kilburn II as well, I think the Tufton might be good to try since its all round bigger. bottom line: if you want to occasionally crank the volume to get people moving and feel the beat then just look elsewhere as this speaker will disappoint you. BUT! if you are after a really awesome sound experience and dont mind always listening at Low or average comfortable levels with decent bass, super compact form for travel, excellent battery life then this speaker is awesome for that. Hope this helps!
