This book should make every Christian angry
Christians should be angered by what the author finds wrong with the church and the broader culture that it has largely created. Both those who agree with him and those who disagree should be angry. Those who disagree may feel threatened by the way in which the author tears apart their largely unconscious thought patterns and inertia-driven behaviors. Those who agree with him may feel a deep anger at the loss of what could have been the impact of the church in the world. Many Christians will find themselves in both camps.Nevertheless, Brendan also offers a message of hope: by returning to what is true in a mythic sense, we may be able to recover -- individually or in small communities, if not in the church as a whole -- that mission of meaning for humankind. He offers in this volume, in addition to his disturbing but compelling thoughts on the church, many tales from Celtic (and other) traditions that offer a glimpse into the truths that he calls us to seek.Wrestle with this book -- it will do you good.

Beauty, Mysticism, and a Cultural Gem
I love this book! It is an amazing writing... creative, insightful, and so uniquely relevant to our times and journeys. It speaks. There is depth and lyricism in the language and flow, and the considered perspectives the author offers have shifted my understandings of spirituality and our Ancestors. I have read it through, and will read again, perhaps in different orders and perhaps some of it aloud. This is an important cultural and personal work. It is, in my opinion, a seminal writing.

If you are fascinated with the power of ancient mythology...
As a big fan of Joseph Campbell, Caroline Myss and mythology, I found this book to be both in-depth and amazingly relevant to our times. Poignant and wonderfully written, parts of it are haunting (i.e. the Fox Women story) and others are convicting (the ancient call of mother earth over the dominator male agendas). As a mother and artist concerned about the ever-increasing busyness of daily life, this book helped remind me of the deep wisdom discovered by our ancestors.

A fresh and deepened look at the wisdom of Christianity
Loved this book by Fr. Brendan. An invitation to deepen our understanding of Christianity with fresh perspective and openness. If you are a literalist or fundamentalist look somewhere else. For others, this can help you appreciate and deepen a Christianity that is transformative and meaningful.

An Essential read!
This book is most essential for anyone seeking NEW Spiritual direction in the troubled and confusing times we live. An insightful glimpse into what has been wrong with our inherited Western version of Christianity, Brendan E Williams has revealed not only what has been lost, but must be regained in Christ for a new generation..
