Rolf Mertens created the very first children's balance bike when he lovingly crafted a wooden bicycle for his 2 year old son. His son fell in love with his new toy and was soon scooting around the village. When his son became tall enough at age 4, he transitioned seamlessly to a pedal bike - without any training wheels, scrapes, or tears. Friends and neighbors asked him to make them bicycles as well. LikeaBike, based in Roetgen, Germany, was born.
