Nice knife - real pattern welded damascus!
First off, if your'e wondering if this is real folded pattern welded damascus for only $70 - it is. You can tell by the texture left by the acid etch - this is the real stuff. It has a strong but random pattern brought out by the etching and a good polish. Mine, at least, was not very sharp ootb due to having quite a burr on the right side edge. I knocked that off on a diamond stone and currently have it to the point where it will slice paper pretty cleanly but still have a ways to go. The blade does have a slight recurve that complicates sharpening a bit. How the previous reviewer determined that the steel was too soft I have no idea, as it seems fine to me. The blade it light and fast and balances about two inches in front of the guard. The blade length is ten inches and thickness about 3/16 of an inch. The clip is long - about 2/3 the blade length - and entirely unsharpened, which is a pity as a proper bowie clip should have at least enough of an edge to deliver an effective backcut. Of course, most commercially made bowies these days come the same way but you can always fix it yourself if you have the skills. The handle - the handle is great! Fits my hand perfectly and the pinky hook on the butt ensures a secure grip even with the beautiful smooth polished wood it is made of. It is hands down the most comfortable grip of any knife I've ever owned. Fit and finish of the handle, mosaic pin, stainless guard and blade is is outstanding. The sheath is attractive and of good quality leather nicely embossed and stitched although the retaining snap is a little weak and the strap of a much thinner leather. But - and this is a very big but that prevented a 5 star rating - they dressed the edges with some black substance that comes off on everything - hands, clothes, everything it touches. I've rubbed at it with cloths and paper towels for over half an hour so far and the damned stuff is still coming off. Unless your'e a Johnny Cash impersonator and habitually dress in all black, you won't want this thing anywhere near you. I'll probably end up making a kydex sheath anyway when the weather warms up but such a problem on an otherwise nice sheath is disheartening. I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned in the other reviews. If your'e looking for an attractive, well made, light and fast damascus bowie - don't let the sheath deter you but be aware of it. Maybe mine was an anomaly or maybe you know how to seal the edges so you won't have the problem, but even if it came sans sheath, it would still be a fine value for just the knife itself.Edit - Found a way to beat the sheath edge problem - coat the edge with liquid wood hardener. It seals the the edge after drying quickly and no more black crap rubbing off. Also leaves a shiny edge.

Beautiful blade
I don't write many reviews but this knife blew me away. So, i felt compelled to say something!Delivery was ahead of promised date. As noted in other reviews, the packaging was nearly bullet-proof. I must admit that it was so good, it took me a while to get through it all.Once inside I found the sheath to be very nice and durable -- as depicted. Good quality leather and an attractive design. The knife itself is flawless. Kid you not. Fit and finish are excellent. Materials and workmanship are befitting a custom knife. The blade is beautiful and razor-sharp. Just gave it a cursory strop to smooth it a bit, and brighten it.I could not be happier with this knife, and will likely repurchase it as a gift for friends. Thanks, Bobcat.Addendum:This is the first carbon steel knife I have had in some time. And, I noticed some corrosion starting a few days after I removed the protective coating the blade was stored and shipped with. The rust cleaned up quickly with a very light application of simichrome paste/polish. But it was a good heads-up -- I probably don't need to say so to most, but I was reminded that carbon steel blades need to be kept with a light coating of oil on the blade to prevent rusting. I used mineral oil, which I have on hand for my oil stones. There are food-grade mineral oils available, too, if this knife is used for food prep. (not sure if you would use it for food prep. But, I suppose it would make quite and impression for carving the Christmas turkey :) )

Great craftsmanship
Knife is a beautiful Damascus pattern, edge is super sharp , blade is thin it should take a resharpening when needed. Now I would not want J to swing this into an ice block or worse but who would for any knife they purchaseHandle is comfortable maybe slightly large but the flair on the grip and finger grooves means it won’t go anywhere (I wear a mens large glove)Probably I should give this knife 1 star so the vendor will offer me another blade to upgrade my review because I want more big cat knives

Excellent value for the price
First time I purchase a knife on Amazon so not sure what I was expecting. On the pictures it looked nice and the reviews were good so I took a chance. I was expecting a bit of a "work of art" with soft quality leather and no imperfections but I was probably dreaming for the price :). What I got instead was a really "honest knife", the blade is excellent damascus craftsmanship (the pattern is unique than the manufacturer's pictures or other people's pictures), the walnut handle is amazingly soft, detailed, beautiful EXCEPT for a small "knick" on one side that made me a bit sad. So the knife itself is great, well balanced, comfortable to hold, single sharp (not back bite), full tang and solid. The leather scabbard on the other hand is made of "functional leather". By this I mean, it's not a great quality leather but it's the kind of leather medieval sword makers probably used back then. So a bit hard, a bit cheap but solid and well stitched. For the price, you can't go wrong if you want a cool looking and functional bowie knife. It feels like it's something I could carry hunting and not feel like it would break on me; I just wished they made a "premium" version a bit more expensive that would truly be top craftsmanship because the design of this knife is truly awesome.

Just read
Awesome looking knife, but the blade is tweaked…if you look right down the spine of the blade it kicks out to left and twists right from center to the bottom of the blade and it’s quite noticeable.

I love this knife
This blade isn't as thick as my Bowie knife, but I don't use this knife for things I would use a Bowie knife for. The pattern welded metal has micro serrations, which make it slice through meat like butter. I don't think they used 1095 and 15n20 in this blade as it isn't as heavy as some of my other blades of a similar size. Seems to be equivalent to some of the "Damascus" kitchen cutlery that is popular now. Not the high end cryogenically treated stuff, but decent. Dang pretty. Comfortable handle. Gets super sharp.
