Trolls haunt the snowy forests, and terrifying monsters roam the open sea. A young woman journeys to the end of the world, and a boy proves he knows no fear. This collection of 16 traditional tales transports readers to the enchanting world of Nordic folklore. Translated and transcribed by folklorists in the 19th century, and presented here unabridged, the stories are by turns magical, hilarious, cozy, and chilling. They offer a fascinating view into Nordic culture and a comforting wintertime read. Ulla Thynell's glowing contemporary illustrations accompany each tale, conjuring dragons, princesses, and the northern lights. This special gift edition features an embossed, textured case and a ribbon marker. Great Nordic ethnic stories
Great short stories of the European North/Scandinavia. Translation is a bit Rocky on a couple of the stories but in general a really entertaining book to read. It’s kids friendly I’d say, too. Great present for 10-11 year olds as well.

Gorgeous book full of magical tales
Beautiful book with gorgeous illustrations and full of wonderful stories about knights and princesses and giants and trolls and witches and dragons and all the good stuff you would expect from your favorite folk tales. Most of these were new to me but they are fun to read and can be enjoyed by all. I just read it prior to giving it as a gift and I am positive my niece is going to love it. Highly recommend!

For some reason , I thought the book would be larger, but it is very nice.
It is a very nice book. Hard cover, a nice selection of stories, the print is smallish, so it fits quite a few excellent tales between the covers. It holds "East of the Sun and West of the Moon', and "The Forest Bride' The Little Mouse who was a Princess", and others just as lovely. Illustrations by Scandinavian artist Ulla Thynell, lend a nice flare to it. I would have enjoyed it immensely as a child. I found I enjoyed it nearly as much as an adult:)
