How many bags would I need for a 1/2 acre pond?

1. We have 3/4 acre pond and one was enough

I’m developing a natural spring and want this to seal the dam used to collect the spring water. Can I mix up the clay and apply it?

I bought it to use as mortar for a 200 yo stone lined well. Although I have received the clay i have not yet researched the proper mix ratio when used for my situation which seems slightly different then yours: Dam seal vs mortar.

Can benseal be broadcast on water surface and left to sink to seal or does the pond have to be drained and the benseal worked into the dirt?

My understanding is that it can be broadcast. If there is a leak the bentonite will go with the flow of the water and seal it. We used it to seal leaks around a dam and poured it in with water flowing through the leaks and it worked great. The water at the dam was only 2 - 3' deep. I hope this helps.
