Portable Boombox Tape Cassette Player/Recorder with AM/FM Radio Review: Great cassette player for transferring old cassettes to PC - I'm a lawyer and recently started working on a criminal case where the crime occurred in the mid-1990's when everyone was still using cassette tapes. When I got the file, guess what? There were a ton of cassette tapes! Well, I haven't had a cassette tape player in years and I wanted to digitize the tapes so I could listen to them on my computer. So I bought this bad-boy. It's simply a basic cassette player with a radio, It's not stereo, but for my needs that was fine. So I plugged a cord into the headset jack and ran it to the microphone jack in my computer. I used Audacity, an open source program for making and managing recordings on the computer, and copied the tapes that way. Worked perfectly for my needs. I didn't really test out the radio too much, but it did pick up local stations fairly well and the sound is good for a mono speaker. I was really expecting it to be a piece of junk, but I am pleased with this purchase. If you need a basic cassette player, this is one to consider. One more thing, it has a cord for AC use that you can store in the battery compartment. It can also use batteries, It uses 4 D cells. Review: Good buy - First one didn't work. Returned it for free through desertcart. Two of the three units I bought don't work with batteries. Other than that, I have no complaints. I've been using the oldest one since February 2016 which lasted until December 2018 when the volume started malfunctioning. Volume sometimes goes way down to where I can't hear it well enough. Just bought another one to replace it - still a good value. Update on the battery issue: you have to install the battery in the lower chamber when it is in a horizontal position. It won't go in if you try to install it at an angle. So there was no problem with the two I mentioned that "don't work with batteries".

Quality is a hit or miss.
The first one I received is a dud, cassette player constantly ate up tape and sound was off, dragging. Then finally stop working completely after a few days. The replacement is good so far. Cassette player works properly, good sound quality. AM/FM radio works fine. Speaker is definitely not stereo because I think you need at least two of them for stereo. This unit only has one speaker.

Blast from the Past!
The Jaras JJ-2618 Limited Edition Cassette Tape Player/Recorder is a blast from the past! I never thought I would be listening to cassette tapes again, but my husband still had some tucked away that we dug out. The Jaras Cassette Tape Player seems like it's well made. I plugged in the power cord (included) and listened to the radio and cassette tapes. It didn't even "eat" the cassette tape! The sound was good. It can also be powered by C batteries (not included). There is a jack to plug in headphones (not included). All the buttons and controls seems to work well. It's fun having a radio that you have to turn the dial, just like when I was a kid. This is a great product for anyone who still has cassette tapes and would like to listen to them! I received the Jaras JJ-2618 Limited Edition Cassette Player/Recorder at a discount for my honest, unbiased review, which I have given to help assist other buyers in making informed purchasing decisions. If you have questions about this product or review, please leave a comment and I'll answer it to the best of my ability.

I am very disappointed that a brand new item barely worked
I purchased this product because of the many positive reviews Jaras received and my need for a cassette recorder. Unfortunately, I waited too long to return it and to try the cassette recording portion of this devise. The recorder did record but produced a faint, barely audible sound when recording off the radio, nor would it play my tapes which was the primary reason I bought the Jaras product. The radio works well, but that's not why I bought the machine. $10.00 radios work well. I have hundreds of tapes and needed a new cassette tape recorder to play these tapes. Please save your money and keep looking if it's the tape recorder/player you're looking for. I'm surprised that Amazon keeps selling this item, or maybe I was just unlucky. Needless to say, I am very disappointed that a brand new item barely worked. LWP

The Nutshell
Perfect for my needs. I got this to go through hundreds of cassette tapes in order to determine which ones I wanted to convert to CDs. Not wanting to use my expensive converting machine (which plays records, CDs, is a radio and can convert tapes to CDs) - I use the Jaras. High-quality sound? Of course not. This "boombox" (read "box" vs. boom) is also fine as my morning radio - so happy it doesn't have the bass that talk-radio doesn't need - and as I'm processing the tapes I'm not worried about abusing either the tapes or the Jaras. As for that brand name - the exact replica of this box seems to be sold under several brand names. All to the good. It's cheap, works fine for my needs - and that's it in a "box."

It's perfect for what I need it for and the price was right.
This was a replacement. The first one came without the plug but they quickly made it right. I needed something to play "The Attacking Anxiety & Depression" tapes with Lucinda's and other voices on them. The tapes are from 1997. The sound is perfect for what I need it for. I wouldn't recommend earphones because the tapes have a bit of a background noise that you can't hear while playing the tapes with the speaker. The relaxation tape (although I like the other one she has better) did have some background music and sounded pretty good. I tried a couple of music tapes but they didn't sound good. But it's probably due to tape quality. If I try other music tapes I'll revise. I've had it two weeks but feel fine about possibly buying another one for a family member that also wants to listen to the tapes.

Does the job well?
I bought this for my kids to listen to old cassettes with. They have went through so many tape players, and I decided to try something different in hopes of it lasting a little longer. It’s had one week of heavy use and still working fine. Sound is clear, and good for a tape player. If it is still working after one year, I will be delighted! Time will tell.
