Mum's the Word (Flower Shop Mysteries, No. 1)

I Can't Keep Mum About This Enjoyable Debut
Abby Knight, owner of the flower shop Bloomer's, started out that particular Monday high on life. Then some maniac backed his SUV into the front of her classic Corvette and drives off. Not one to suffer injustice, she gets part of his license plate and begins trying to track down the culprit.Things turn interesting when Abby learns of a murder in a nearby apartment building. It happened just before Abby's car was hit. Could the killer be the person who hit her car? Can Abby and her car live long enough to find out?I had been interested in this series because of the book titles alone. I love a good pun, and these are great. I finally took the plunge, and I'm glad I did. The book is filled with warmth, from the lovable characters to the writing style. There are several laugh out loud moments and plenty of grins. The characters are interesting and real. I can't wait to get to know them better in the other books. Abby does behave rather stupidly at times. Of course, only once did I completely disagree with her actions.Unfortunately, the plot suffered a little. I didn't mind the fact that the book spent plenty of time dealing with things not related to the mystery since I truly like Abby and watching her with her family was highly entertaining. In fact, those were some of the best laughs of the book. What did bother me was the climax. While I had pieced things together myself, everything was way too rushed. Hopefully, that was a rookie mistake. I certainly intend to find out.Whether you love flowers or not, don't miss this book. It's lots of fun. I look forward to reading more about Abby in the near future.

Such a fun read
I just found this author and the flower shop mysteries series this summer and that’s all I’ve been reading. The characters are so fun. It’s light, fun reading!! The mysteries are cute to follow. I highly recommend Kate Collins books!!

The Hallmark Channel- another issue. Who would You have cast as Abby?
I really enjoyed the Mum's the Word, the first in the Flower Shop Series, especially since it will be on the Hallmark Mysteries Channel(premium), I just ordered the second book in the series about a young woman who is trying to pick up the pieces of her life by getting the opportunity to 'own' a local flower shop and is fixated with her newly acquired vintage yellow corvette..which serves as the involuntary catalyst of murder and mayhem..which then of course leads to the unfolding of our heroine in training, Abby and her band of loyal supporters, the requisite cop and handsome PI she connects with , its a well know tale and connection of characters , but just as charming. My only issue is..who thought Brooke Sheilds should play Abby?? That is a stretch...

Say Yes to the Book. Say NO to the Movie!
I was very excited to see that Mum's the Word was going to be a movie on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel; then I saw that 50-year-old Brooke Shields was going to play 26-year-old Abby! Not only is she WAY TOO OLD for the part, she is tall, brunette, and willowy, whereas Abby is short, red-haired, freckled, and buxom. I absolutely cannot believe this casting. Even 20 years ago Brooke would have been all wrong for the role. I will watch this just to see how badly they mess it up. Why couldn't they have found the right actress? Rachel McAdams might have worked much better, for example.

Review of "Mum's the Word"
"Mum's the Word" introduces us to female-sleuth Abby Knight. She's young, single and lives in Indiana with her roommate Nikki and Nikki's cat Simon. Abby flunked out of law school after her first year and owns a flower shop named Bloomers. This book follows Abby's efforts to find out about the man in the black SUV who hit her car and drove off. There was a murder the same day, at about the same time that Abby's car got hit, and she thinks there is a tie-in between the two events. There are many facets to the book that make it interesting. Abby's quest for justice fuels the story. We see the outrage she feels at those who commit crimes and get away with them, whether it's trying to figure out who hit her car or helping a woman escape her abusive husband.I enjoyed this book and will be reading more in the series.

great cozy mystery
This is one of my favorite book series out. Abby is a very enjoyable character with flaws who is well aware of this but that doesn't keep her from trying to get the attention of the new bar owner Marco. Abby is short with red hair and freckles. She has a crazy mother, a self centered sister, perfect brothers to top it off. Her main source of support is from her staff which are more like family. I really like Grace's character when she quotes from books and strikes a pose. The book has a nice pace that kept me informed without ever loosing me. The writing style is very clear and the pace doesn't get muddled. I'm not going to explain the mystery itself because other reviewers have done that and it is also mentioned on the product description.

Precitable.
A fun easy read and the cast of characters fits like a shoe: comfortable and familiar. A bit too "predictable."

Get rid of swear words for five stars
I enjoyed this very much but could have done without the swear words. They definitely are not needed!!! I will keep reading the series though.

Blooming marvellous
Abby Knight dropped out of law school and decided to focus on her passions which lead to her opening her flower shop Bloomers. She didn't count on the low cost competition opening out by the highway, or getting her vintage Corvette damaged in a hit-and-run. Now with the help of ex-cop Marco Salvare, Abby is determined to track down the culprit. But Abby doesn't expect to stumble onto a world of menacing phone calls, police corruption and least of all a murder. This is one of those books that had been sitting on my to-be-read shelf for what seems like forever before I decided to pick it up. Even as a big fan of cozy mysteries I approached this with trepidation as I know very little about flowers, and usually choose cozies to meet my other interests as well (baking, chocolate, coffee, knitting etc). However this series has a lot of positive praise so I decided to give it a shot and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The plot is well thought out and developed, and unusual in the fact that Abby doesn't discover the murder victim herself. There are a lot of twists and turns, and rather than a single plot line there are in fact three closely twined together - a divorce, Abby's harassment and the murder. Each is well written and the three blend together to produce a complex and unpredictable mystery.I've heard other readers refer to Abby as a meddler, which I agree with although it didn't affect my enjoyment of the storyline. I enjoyed Abby's enthusiasm, although her business would be ruined were it not for the help of Lottie and Grace given the amount of time she spends snooping around. I loved how Abby's mother was built up, and especially how she was continually bringing some awful (and hilarious) clay creations to the store for Abby to sell. Marco filled the usual police role well, although he is a bit of a jerk so I'd like to see him be nicer in future books. All in all I really enjoyed this and will be looking out for Slay It with Flowers (the second book in the series).Plot: 10/10Characters: 9/10Ending: 10/10Enjoyment: 9/10Cover: 7/10Overall: 45/50 Slay It with Flowers

Great basic idea badly carried otu
The "heroine" was too stupid to live and so arrogant that she drove me nuts. Even the great side characters were not enough to make up for her.

Hello, Sunshine
Eigentlich schade.
