Fun Idea, But Last Step Could Be Tricky
This book shows children how to draw monsters in 6 steps. I think this is good for helping with shape recognition and how to turn basic shapes into something more complex. The first five steps clearly show how a few details are altered or added to make the drawing more complex. But I thought that going from step 5 to step 6 required too many changes. Perhaps the author could have had the child add a bit more detail to some other steps so there wasn't such a big leap between step five and step six. This should definitely be for an older child, perhaps even a teen who likes monsters and wants to draw them, because of this requirement to add so much at the final step. After the step-by-step instruction comes a page where the child can add the monster to a partially illustrated scene. I think this is a great idea, as it helps the child understand how to add a figure to a nearly full illustration. All in all, I think this could be an enjoyable book if your child likes monsters, but they should definitely be a little older, at least 8 to 10, so they won't get frustrated trying to make that big move to the final step.I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Monster fun to be had
Starting off with a quick lesson on how to use the book, each page allows the artist to create their own type of monster and then color the page in. There is ample opportunity to customize the shape given - larger eyes, longer talons - so there is room for creativity.Whilst my daughter isn't one for monsters, she did find it easy to follow the instructions and design her own monster. I also tried drawing my own creature and thought that with practice a child could take their monster out of the book and create their own story or comic book. This book is a great starter for improving drawing skills as well as creating monsters!Overall, I also reviewed 'Word Search' and 'Color By Numbers' - these are three excellent books that will keep your child engaged and busy. They are set out in such a way that its easy to flick through and do what piques their interest. My almost seven years old, enjoyed all of them although she is more partial to the word search. Highly recommended for all.I received complimentary copies of Color By Numbers, How to Draw Monsters and Word Search from Activity Wizo. The opinions expressed here are my own and I am not required to give a positive review.

Fun and Educational
“Monsters” seem to be in vogue, so what better thing to do than teach kids how to draw them? The people at Activity Wizo have created a coloring book which is educative as well as fun. This book will help your budding Michelangelo develop their skills in a fun way. The pictures of “monsters” will keep them engaged and the directions are rather simple and straight forward, although, I think it looks easier than it is. In other words, the drawings will challenge your children while giving them cues as to how it is done. That may be the most important part of the book from an educational perspective. It is challenging. But given the topic, children will like it and, therefore, it will keep their attention. Most of the “monsters” are “cute”. This means even younger children will enjoy them.In addition to the guide to drawing monsters, there is also a coloring page with each monster embedded on the page as well as one for them to trace and then color. This helps the children know how they can include their own monsters in pictures as opposed to just drawing monsters. As you can see, I was most captivated by the educational aspect of the book as opposed to just the coloring book aspect. Both are there but the didactic facet seemed more important to me.Upon request the publisher sent me a copy of the book to review.

Kids learn how to draw monsters in a few easy steps
Kids love monsters. Even though they may be scared of them come bedtime, they are also fascinated by them and this book will allow them to draw monsters of varying shapes. Each monster has a page telling the kids how to draw the monster in five easy steps. Then a second page follows in which the kids can practice their drawing skills by drawing the monster in its natural habitat. This is a fun book for when kids are in their monster phase. As usual, I would recommend that parents work with their kids and not use the book to keep the kids busy. This is certainly something that a parent can do with their kids and have fun discuss the monsters they are drawing and then talk about the what the monsters are doing while trying to recreate the monster in its own environment. Overall, a fun book for kids that are curious about monsters and at the same time, the book teaches the kids to follow instructions and allows them to be creative.I received a free copy of the book from the publisher.

Such a fun drawing guide for children!
My kids are in love with this drawing book! We went to Disney once and stayed in the Art of Animation. They hosted these drawing classes a few times a day, and this book was JUST like that. It was easy for the kids to understand and follow, and the monsters are adorable! Each activity has the drawing steps on the left for the child to trace and practice. The right page then has an environment for them to draw their monster on. There is an example monster for them to see and the outline of the one for them to draw. I like that there is still enough missing in the outline for the child to make it their own monster. It's a pretty awesome book, and I highly recommend it!I was provided a gifted copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.
