IPad users alert: One-way audio only with an iPad! Not for Zoom!
This mic picked up my voice just fine and recorded it. But my iPad’s speaker made no sound when playing back the recording. I tried playing a YouTube video and music, still no sound. As long as the lavalier mic was plugged into the lightning port, sound would not play from the speaker. Removed the mic, and the speaker worked fine. After some research, I learned that the iPad’s hardware is designed to expect headphones/earbuds when an audio device is plugged into the lightning port. Therefore, sound output is sent to that device and not to the native speaker. A simple mic has no speaker, so there’s no sound.Upshot: this is probably an excellent mic for recording, but it will not work for two-way audio. *Thus, it is useless for Zoom calls or other interactions.*

Nice mic on a low budget
The long cable is definitely a plus, however the sound quality is just ok. It is a plug and use product so it is easy to use. The sound pick up is not very sensitive.

Long cord for recording/filming presentations
I purchased this microphone to record an awards ceremony presentation with my iPhone. I could sit comfortably in the audience to live-stream the event while the speaker wore the microphone on his lapel. The audio came through crisp and clear. It was MUCH better than live-streaming the event using the inbuilt microphone, picking up all of the noise in the room and audience. Instead, with this microphone, the audio picked up ONLY the speaker's voice. It made live-streaming the ceremony much more professional. I ended up live-streaming more presentations due to the success.

I bought them for my whole staff
These are very reliable and easy to use microphones, and I like them so much that I bought one for all of my employees (10). We primarily use them for zoom calls and podcast recordings, plugging directly into an iPhone and using the voice memos app or other apps to record. The cord is a bit long, but that's easily fixed by tucking the excess wire into the carrying case.

Small and mighty
We use this in our chiropractic office to capture the popping sounds when we adjust people. This catches the sound really well. It’s easy to use and we love the long cable.

Disappointing
My first review on this item was maybe too soon .. I find it best to wait after purchasing anything a few months before jumping to review it. This only worked barely over a month or two? and then it stopped working. Waste of money.

Low-Cut Does Not Function
I have purchased 5 YC-VM40 microphones and although they do provide reasonably good sound to my iPhones and iPads, I discovered that the two I had in my possession were not operating correctly. I thought it might have been only units from the source I purchased them from so I just purchase the microphone from a different seller (the same YC-VM40 model). I have tested all three of these microphones now and found that none of them function correctly. The attenuation switch is supposed to attenuate the signal by 10 dB. This switch does attenuate the signal but only by 7.1 dB. The low-cut filter is supposed to attenuate the bass, but it does not affect the frequency response at all and instead attenuates all frequencies by 4.5 dB so if you switch the attenuator switch to -10 and turn on the low-cut the result is the output of the microphone is attenuated by about 7.8 dB. There is NO Low-Cut function. It appears all microphones with this model number probably have errors in the implementation of their electronics. Not sure if this is because the original design is wrong of if there are assembly errors. It is almost as if a resistor was inserted into the circuitry instead of a capacitor. The info on the box is also confusing. On one side of the box is says, “YC-VM40 Universal Cardioid Microphone” and on the other side of the box it says, “Omnidirectional lavalier lapel microphone”. It must be an omnidirectional microphone and NOT a cardioid microphone since it has no ports. See attached images.
